Looking for some loads for a sti dvc open. I’ve tried cfe pistol upto 7.2gn with campro 124s but it doesn’t seem like there is enough gas to work the comp to its full potential. what’s your favourite?

6.3 1255fps
6.5 1295fps
6.7 1330fps
6.9 1360fps
7.1 1370fps
7.2 1385fps

8.9 3N38 with Campro 121 yields about 173 PF. Make sure to work your way up slowly using a Chronograph and look for over pressure signs. I personally feel 3N38 is the best open powder for 9mm and provides a lot of gas volume to work the comp.

We keep it in stock too :)

Frontier 121gr Match, 9.7 grs of AA#7, makes 170PF, the good thing about AA7 is there is still enough room to seat your bullets and lots of gas for your comp to work.. tried almost all 9 major powder most will fill up the case, CFE, Autcomp although can make major it doesn’t generate enough gas to work the comp and bbl ports if you have one. Btw my 9major has 2 bbl ports and 4 chambers comp with 3 top ports and 2 sides. The 3n38, n350 fills the case with little room to seat the bullets and lots spillage especially if using Dillon 650. If Shooting 38’s than its another story

Isn’t AA7 very abrasive for the barrel?

I’ve been using it for the last 6 years( 18k)and seen no effect on the Schuemann bbl, it still shoots a group, sold the gun a year ago and the new owner used my load recipe , the gun is still going strong in accuracy , he put another 3k in a year. Now the downside is its a little dirty compared to the Vhitavouri n350,n337 and 3n38, just have to clean it every 500 Rnds, it doesn’t hurt trying a lbs

Haven’t tested with CFE but 7.3gr of Win auto Comp gets me around 175-178 PF with 124gr bullets. This is with a 4.7” barrel with two popple holes.

I tested everything from 160pf to 180pf and noticed when you get above 173ish the gun flattened out better. This will be some what powder dependent but with appropriate powders also quite similar.

Here is a good read:

Had an Open shooter using Campro 124s IIRC who had a jacket separate from the lead last week. First time I've ever seen it. He said it happens occasionally with his load. There was no chrono so I don't know what his velocity was.

I've heard of this happening with 9mm major loads when there's too much crimp. It weakens the copper jacket so it may come off when fired. Campro's are electroplated though, didn't think it would happen with them but I guess it can then.
