Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with these? I have found a decent one for sale for a little over 700$. Are they worth it? I have an RPAL, but just wondering if they could they be rebarreled to non-restricted?

Once a firearm is registered as restricted, it cannot ever be non-restricted. Some contender owners ran into this problem. Had it in rifle configuration, made into a handgun and had the registration changed, then decided to make it back to a long gun to hunt with. Couldn't get its classification changed back. This was what we were told at my last verifiers course a few months ago.

You were told wrong, at least in part. Semi auto rifles registered as restricted only due to a sub 18.5 inch barrel can be reregistered as non-restricted if rebarrelled. The CX4 Storm is a popular model for conversion.

You are correct that the CFC and RCMP have taken the view that handgun recievers are always handgun recievers. Both TC Contender, and Remington XP100 recievers have been stuck as restricted even when converted into non-restricted configuration.

It would be an interesting test of thier operating theory to take an 80% 1911 casting, and convert it to a dedicated lower for the Mech-Tech CCU with an 18.5 inch barrel.

These rifles seem to be fairly scarce and desirable. Are they really that good? I am looking at either getting this or maybe spending another couple hundred and getting an AR-180b
