9mm per 1000, does brand matter much?

My experience - Regular American Eagle and Blazer are similar performance wise within the 115/124gr and is generally good range ammo. Winchester is very dirty. S&B is decent, as is Magtech, which I have found shot most reliably in 147gr (for me anyway). I have quite enjoyed PMC (in general I have found PMC to be very reliable and perform well across different calibers), though I haven't seen PMC in 147gr yet. Never used Independence for 9mm so can't say. If you buy the Syntech (TSJ) rounds, there is significantly less fouling, but that's in the nature of the product.

I did buy several cases of the new STV Scorpio product, but I haven't shot it yet, though there are others who have who have mixed reviews of it.

BTW the above is in the context of brass cartridges. I don't have enough experience with using aluminum to comment.

The most serious issue would be "no bang". I've not had that with any brand.
On the other hand, some of aluminum-cased ammo did not eject properly. (Deformed casing -- not sure why).

9mm American Eagle, Blazer, CCI independance etc at the $3-499/1000rds bulk price point, is there any difference between the brands?

It can; after a very bad experience, I started hand loading and have not bought any store ammo other than .22 in many, many years.

I think the only brands I’ve learned to avoid were Sumbro and Winchester white box.

Add to that Maxxtech (not to be confused with Magtech which is good). Maxxtech has had so many reports of duds and squibs and case issues - not worth the risk. Thankfully it's not widely available at most outlets.

I had troubles with the aluminum stuff in my sig 226, Would not extract, just took a chunk of the case. So it gets brass all time. The sig is the only new one, so maybe that had something to do with it too. Gone thru 3000 blazer Al, no issues in cz, M&p, or sig250.

yes it does matter.

s&b 9mm very first cases we bought had no problems (approx 10yr ago). It was good quality ammo that had a small amount of sealant over the primer.
Several years later we bought some more cases of it. THey seem to have double or trippled the amount of sealant on the primer. I had no problems with it in my BHP, but it was having constant issues in a glock due to the firing pin not being able to hit hard enough to penetrate the sealant and set off the primer.
also avoid barnaul unless you know your pistol will fire it. Constant issues in glocks, m&ps, beretta

test out a box before committing to a case, and even then new case lots can have big changes from previous cases.

9mm is probably the least finicky cartridge I've got any kind of high round count with. Only ever had problems with the forged USA steel cased stuff. Would get hung up in my APX. I've shot lots of what you listed, never had any problems with brass ammo, in any of my firearms. Never shot aluminum and can't speak on accuracy, all my sidearms shoot better than I.

I recently bought 1000 winchester white box for the first time as it was on sale at Al Flaherty. Likely my luck as I found a defective one in the first box along with some with bullets not sitting square in the case. I know it's bad idea to use the one in the photo but how about those not sitting square?

I have had questionable quality in WWB ( in .223, not in 9mm...yet...)

I think fixed the photo now. i have never seen anything like this or with bullet not sitting square in CCI, PMC, Browning practice rounds, Sellier & Bellot.
The gentleman in the store said he uses it all the time though.

I agree Maxxtech has issues and is quite dirty to use. It should not be confused with Magtech which in my opinion is great range ammo.

100% agree. I have had zero issues with MAGTECH 147gr. I just wish I bought more of it when it was priced at $18.99 a box last year (I got even a better deal on it from SFRC when I bought in bulk - think it ended up being something like $16.70 per box).
