9mm pistol for a newbie

...I kinda like Ruger but no nothing of their handguns. I was thinking Ruger because I might pickup a PCC 9mm as well. At least they could use the same mags...

I'm a Glock guy, and I see no advantage in a Ruger American, but Dave Spaulding is a reasonably knowledgeable individual who is familiar with both.

Bottom line is if you like and want the Ruger, go for it. When I was looking for my first HG last year I thought I wanted a Glock as it was the first HG I fired, after looking at FN509, SSP320, and a few other striker fired HG's. I ended up going with a Beretta APX RDO.

Shot a Glock a few weeks back; belongs to a friend. It shot amazingly well for me; very accurate. However the grip was very uncomfortable for me, and if I shot it a lot, would have some very sore spots on my hand; and the lighter, plastic frame, resulted in more felt recoil.

It does not matter how well a gun shoots, if it is uncomfortable, it is no fun.

Regarding decockers... I like them; had a NP58 (SIG clone); really slick feature; my Jericho .40 has a slide mounted one; It's not as slick as the SIG style, but works well, and gives you something to grab on to when racking the slide back... Not a lot to grab onto on a Jericho.

i do not know if it was gen 5 or not but the gen 5 come with different adapter for shooters hand.

im new to own a glock but not to shoot them. i do think the gen 5 especially g19x fit me well.

I'm a huge fan of the CZ SP-01 Shadow. I think it's a great handgun for a beginner and after two years of shooting it I still am impressed with how accurate it is. Low maintenance, reliable and not expensive.

I've heard nothing but good things about the SP-01, might have to pick one up and see!
