Hope this is the right place to put this,
I fancy a 9mm semi auto unrestricted carbine, like a ruger pc9 or the old Marlin camp carbines. I don"t like a lot of modern stuff(Beretta Storm) esp as I want something inoffensive looking for plinking anywhere legal.
Any suggestions? Does anyone still make such a gun? Are ther many around 2nd hand? I will probably buy a Mini 14 anyway, but I"d like something pistol cal. I might end up buying a lever .357.
thoughts appreciated.

Both the Marlin camp carbine and pc9 are restricted. You can however get a gun smith to make a longer barel for it.

I don't know if you've happened to have seen these before, the Mech Tech Carbine Convervion unit. I've shot another range members and it is a nice little unit. Of course you would have to already own a glock or 1911 lower for it.

Back in 97', the now defunct GoldnGuns in Surrey brought in a bunch of 9mm Keltecs (folding carbine with S&W mags). I bought one ($1003 including taxes) and still have it. I still shoot it and because I'm an old fart I started thinking it was restricted. Just the other day I dug out the reg papers and low and behold it's non-restricted. Barrel is 20" and get a lot of questions when I take it to the range. I recently shot a Tavor and it reminded me of the Keltec because of the gases seeping up from the ejection port right into my right eye LOL! Could post some pics if anyone is interested.

Not 9mm, but might I suggest:
M1 carbine with a non-restricted length barrel. :dancingbanana:
They show up on the EE here from time to time, and they are a great little rifle. Almost as cheap to shoot as a pistol ammo carbine, and reloading is relatively cheap using electroplated cast bullets.

At one time commercial M-1 carbines were offered in 9mm.
The MechTech carbine conversion kit is restricted? Just the kit, without a frame present?
Of course a complete firearm using a MechTech kit is restricted, because the pistol frame used is restricted. Barrel length is irrelevant, any firearm with a pistol frame is restricted, even if the barrel were a metre long. A pistol cannot be reclassified as non-restricted no matter what barrel is installed.

I like the M1 idea, how hard are they to find in non-retricted form?
Are they 5 shot only? I seem to remember a .30 cal semi auto pistol(coonan or LAR?)
Another option would be a .44 ruger, but I would have prefrred 9mm or 40.
thanx 4 the ideas.

They also made a kit for .45 Win Mag on a M1 frame. All that needed to be changed was the barrel I believe? Harold * someone should make a cheap bolt action .9mm,.40 and .45 that takes 10shot pistol mags with a 18.5" barrel...........................

There is a little 9mm carbine advertised in G&A all the time. Hi Point Firearms www.hi-pointfirearms.com. I have no idea on it's status in Canada but it dosn't look too "evil". Says it comes in several models so maybe one has a long enough barrel.
