i am looking for 9mm..i am 6.2 200lbs and equally large hands...i dont have the luxury of trying out different pistols....

glock
h&k
sig

or what other makes would you recommend....

Hmm, is there no way of test driving one at your local club?

Being biased, give the STI GP6 a thought. The CZ SP01 Shadow is also a good fit for a lot of people. The CZ 75/85 is cheaper, with a rougher trigger, but it's also a great gun.

All three will hold thier value if you then find they don't suit you and you move on to something else.

CZ 75B, accurate and all steel construction. Beretta 92FS is pretty sweet too. Either of these in stainless would be a cosmetic plus.

your 6.2 and 200lbs your not big your just tall :D

i'm 5'8 and 220, big hands, shoot a glock 17 very well.

go too you gun club look around ask questions. touch if allowed too

gotta feel it. you might have big hand but short thumbs, or short trigger finger, reset on a trigger might be to much.

gotta touch befor you know

just my 2c

I agree with the touch before you buy. I am neither particularly big nor tall and yet really liked the way the Beretta 92 felt, so I bought it. Online you'll hear about them not being good at all for smaller hands but for me it worked. Maybe you will find the same with something that you never considered before.

IMO the best first pistol is the one you like the most...right?!
if you don't want to save money and have a good gun in 9mm :

metal frame:
1: SIG 226
2: Beretta 92FS
3: CZ 75/85

plastic frame:
1: H&K USP
2: Glock 17
3: S&W MP

I don't buy in the term try before you buy. You will never know how you like it without fired over five hundred rounds and that is why a lot of pistol were sold after several hundred rounds. Almost all model brand name guns are good shooter, buy the one that you want the most, bottom line is sell it after several hundred rounds. Having said I will pick HK on your list or CZ as everybody said.

Trigun

The only pistol I would highly recommend you buy before touching would be a good used Sig P226 on the EE, try and find an older one in good condition, one of the original german ones with stamped slide if possible, very well balanced and will fit your hand just right, if you don't like it sell it you won't lose. Big palms? its the perfect gun, Long fingers? may not be ideal.

One of the pistols with reversible (or replaceable inserts) backstraps might be the way to go for you. If at all possible, try a Ruger SR9, Beretta 92 or PX4, and S&W M&P. AFAIK they all have reversible backstraps or replaceable grip inserts for size customization.

I recommend that you identify (to yourself, for yourself) your primary intended purpose. If the purpose is competitive sport the choice might be different from those you've already mentioned, and if you ask about a particular sport you'll get a whole different set of answers. If the purpose is personal interest only (and you have no competitive aspirations), you are free to buy whichever you prefer. All of the three brands you've mentioned represent reliable products.

Regardless of your primary intended purpose, I would push you toward an option that included an identical .22LR pistol, such as a Glock with an quality aftermarket .22LR conversion kit, an HK with a (rare) factory .22LR conversion kit, or a full-sized SIG in .22LR or with a factory .22LR conversion kit. Before you buy anything you should consider this (availability/inavailability) factor.

A.22LR-chambered version of your preferred centerfire pistol is - and will continue to be - invaluable.

i love this forum already..i just applied for my upgrade i hope it comes thru soon...

i would like to get something with a light and easier trigger pull---i love th look and slide release on the hk but looks like the glock trigger pull will be more smoother and faster
