Hey there,,found the problem,,I didnt have enough of a bell in the brass and when the bullet was seated it bulged out and deformed the casing. also caused a bit of lead shaving. checked and reset all my dies,,now I'm of to the range

i'd still watch that 154 grain loading- i've fired 158s in a beretta 92 and got keyholing at 10 yards- the bullet was actually hitting sideways-

I use a RCBS 3 die carbide set just for the record, 9mm tapers and as mentioned your crimp coming in early is where id put blame as well as long as OAL is to spec

If you're talking 9mm Luger, there should be essentially a straight line from the base to the case mouth, even with a bullet seated. The so-called 'taper crimp' is not really a crimp like you're used to with your .357 loads. All it does is take out the slight belling you need to get the bullet to seat without risk of crumpling the case.

Lotsa good advice above. Start out with resized cases as suggested. If they go home without trouble, try the dummy load suggested above and experiment with seating depth.

I just had an embarrassing moment on the range with a new JHP load for the 9mm. I used the same seating depth I had been using for FMJ of the same weight but the slide wouldn't go home - turned out the different bullet profile needed to be seated deeper as the bullet was running into the rifling. Played around with a dummy and found the right seating depth - easy fix.
