9mm target loads with Winchester Western 231 powder?

Hi. A jacketed bullet is a jacketed bullet. Use the Winchester 231, 125 grain, SIE FMJ data on Hodgdon's site.

I loaded some Berries 124 gr plated over 3.9 of 231 and thought they were a little too snappy. Dropping the load to 3.6 caused 20% stovepipes in the xd9 while the Glock 17 tolerated the lighter load fine. Couldn't get the new Chrony working properly so I don't have velocities. I have loaded some to 3.8 and might get out to try them tomorrow. Don't know if that helps you or not.

where the heck are all these "pussy" loads coming from?- my speer no 11 says to start at 4.6 to a maximum of 5 for a 125 grain jacketed for 1130 fps top end- i'm shooting a beretta 92- i know if i drop down to 4.2 with my uzi that it will not push the bolt back far enough to engage the sear

Actually no.

If you are not using exactly the same bullet as in published data, then make sure that the length of the bullet itself is the same as in the data. I am not talking about the overall length (OAL) of the finished cartridge, but the length of the projectile itself.

Not a problem if the bullet you are using is shorter than the bullet in published specs, but if it is longer, then you should load to a longer OAL.

This applies when loading to max pressure.

I use 4.0 gr under a lead 125 lead bullet.

I'm with ganderite 4 or 4.1 under any 124/125 grain 9mm bullet.

i was loading it with 4.3 gr of 231 with a OAL of 1.1
