Hello folks,
I need your advice on a problematic 9 mm Zastava M70A Tokarev clone. I bought it new, but from the day 1 it

  1. Fails to eject the case / stovepipes (every 10-15 rounds)
  2. Fails to extract the case / double feeds (also every 10-15 rounds)

For (a) I suspect that the main spring is too strong, so I experimented with more powerful ammo (which works perfectly fine in all other guns). The frequency of (a) is then reduced to once in every 20-25 rounds, but frequency of (b) is then increased to every 7-10 rounds.

Trying to troubleshoot (b) I have changed the extractor / and the extractor spring to the original part from TT34 but this didn't make a slightest difference.

I also have an original main spring / guide rode from TT34. I am planning to snip a couple of coils from the spring and try it out but this would likely help only with (a) and not (b).

Any thoughts what else could I do to address the issues ?

Mag or mag spring weak maybe, did ya clean it well/chamber, before shooting, are the projectiles normal round nose? does Wolfe make a spring kit for those, maybe new springs all around may help. Good luck.

This is a new production gun. Being properly cleaned after each shooting including the chamber. The projectiles are normal round nose. The mags had so many machine marks that the rounds were sticking. Now the mags are working OK, but only after I polished the internals and lubricated the springs.

Ok, sounds right, from what I have learned here on CGN the mags are quite often the problem, not just the zastava but most semi handguns, so, it works good now or still stove piping?

I fixed the mags which fixed the mag related feeding issues. However, this did not fix either (a) or (b). The problem still persists.

Now, I'm sure this isn't your issue, but I had a buddy shooting my Zastava M70a and for the first time ever the gun had FTF & FTE issues. After some head scratching I came to the conclusion that he was "limp-wristing" it while shooting.

Sure, limp-wristing could cause this. However, not an issue in this case. I am pretty sure that Failure to Eject is caused by the main spring being too strong. This I can fix by installing a weaker one. But I am not sure what else I could do in order to fix (2) - that is Failure to Extract given that I have already changed both the ejector and the ejector spring.
