I am a and i purchased a .40cal for my first handgun (walther p99) and i LOVE IT. But at the same time you wont hear me dissin a 9mm. Either way is a safe bet!

Christina, How do you find the recoil on your Walther? It sounds like you don't mind it? I'd like to pick up a P99 also (my first handgun) and I was leaning towards the .40 but I wasn't sure if I would like the "snap" compared to the 9mm.

? thats really unusual. I've seen them so gummed full of crap that you'd never believe they'd function and still run fine.

I should just blame rimfire ammo. Seems like all the problems I got with a firearm either came from a rimefire or chinese pistol. Anyway my gf tried all kinds, including Sig, P99 (which she really disliked), USP, 1911, Glock and at the end, she was a lot more accurate with the P7 and liked the grip.

This may be just me, or the limited number of .40 semi's I've fired, but I find that .40 doesn't really push "back" , into the wrist as much as it snaps the barrel up.

If you get a G17 9mm or a G22 40S&W you can also get her a Advantage Arms 22lr conversion kit.

You will save you big bucks in the ammo department and she'll love you even more because she now has 2 guns to play with.

My view is that the commercial 40 is more push than snap when compared with commercial 9mm load, but of course both are way more snappy than the 45.

This is all out of all steel guns. I hate the buzzy resonance the comes through the frame of a glock makes my hands feel like I've been pushing a lawn mower for hours.

You can do a lot to the felt recoil and muzzle jump of a gun by tweaking the load, the recoil spring and the weight. My mother (in her 50's with weak grip and carpal tunnel) prefers my IPSC set up P16-40 to any 9mm she's tried.
