9mm vs. 45

Dragoon: I assume you are talking about a Norinco other than their 1911's.. I have four of them. Two I have left stock. Neither have the triggers my two customized Norincos have but neither have trigger pulls of 22lbs either. More like five with trigger creep. Anyone who doesn't want to break the bank and wants a 1911 ought to run not walk to their nearest Norinco dealer. They are great guns for their price point and much better than the Colt MilSpec retro guns or Springfield's attempt IMHO.

Out here I see they are still caryying S&W .38spl. At least up in the North West. Aren't to many people who survive a .38Spl in the head anymore than a 9MM. Both give you major headaches!

I wasnt disappointed with any of mine either. I should have never sold mine.It came with a 4.5lb trigger and when I slapped in my McCormic trigger it droped it to 3.5lbs.I was shocked.

And who would that be?

The CGN name is K100 --- go figure
His first name is Yaro, he has posted here quite a few times.

The K-100's being brought into canada have sevearal 'standard' features that have been improved over the original ... at the request of those from this board.

Very cool gun and very cool development... people will look back on this and wonder...

Hey and don't forget to mention the K 100 is the choice of the Slovakia Special Ops boys. Now there is a ringing endorsement if there ever was one. For $585 Cdn you are kidding right?

Kick me in the head, the price is ONLY $595. Well if they are good enough for the Slovakian ERt team they are good enough for the Terrace Volunteers!

I own pistols in both calibers. I prefer shooting the .45 and am definitely more accurate with it and it's sure easier for my aging eyes to see what I've done to the target. With that said, factory .45 ammo is almost double the price of 9mm (I don't reload, can't find enough space in my condo). For a beginner, I think trigger time is very important. So, I would have to point you towards the 9mm as ammo would be cheaper. Seeing that you are going to get a .22 pistol, why don't you just shoot the Hell out of that until you're consistent with it, then buy yourself that 'real' gun. Starting off with a centre fire handgun can introduce/prolong bad habits and switching between calibers doesn't help develop consistency in a beginner....just my opinion, YMMV.

I prefer .45 too but the advice is very good. Start with the .22 and develop some skills . Besides the ammo is a lot cheaper than either .45 or 9mm. This is not something to rush into. Taking it a bit further, if you go to the range, you might be able to persuade someone to let you try out the bigger bores

Everyone has good points about 9mm, but I still vote for .45. Reasons:

Most people I know have more money than free time.

The cheapest gun in the world is no fun if you have no time to shoot it. Get something that is fun, shooting isn't about saving money! A .22 is a great place to start though - develop skills & safety.

Who is the Slovakian ERT? Are they DANGEROUS!!!!

Hey, come on, guys. Slovakia is in eastern europe, and since the fall of communism, they've been fighting a lot of the same "opportunists" who make Russia the organized crime capital of the world.

I bet those Slovak ERT boys are one tough pack of bastards!

OHHHHH!!
You learn something new every day!!

I have both a 45 and a 9mm, to tell you the truth start with a 9mm and get good witha pistol that is cheap to shoot then step into a .45
That's what I would say

For cheaper price and good availability of factory ammo, 9mm is the way to go. For sheer fun you need 45acp. Start with the 9mm and buy a 45acp later.

pick up a used browning buckmark or ruger mark ii .22 pistol - you can find them for super cheap, and ammo is $12 CDN for like 500 rounds. get to know the trigger pull, sights and technique, then drop the $$$ on a .45 or 9mm
