9mm VS REVOLVER.357MAGNUM

What are you really asking, city hunter? Or what are you planning, there is not much game to hunt in the city and we certainly don't live in a war zone (even in :Wally"). I see bullet proof vests on sale in the equipment exchange all the time. Not illegal but for what purpose would you want one? I would personally like to see moderators stop these sales...

The short answer is '.357 magnum' of course and 'Yes'.
However, I must warn you... you are starting to sound a little "strange" ;)
Hehehhe

Have you finally decided on which hand gun you want to buy? I noticed you've been changing your mind a lot.
Did you just get your PAL? How long have you had it?

I am worried you've maybe watched this movie a little too much:

To find answer to "which is more powerfull" you should look at some cartrige ballistics data, like this one for example:
http://world.guns.ru/ammo/am02-e.htm
(There are some other tables can be found on internet)
This not only tells you what is more powerfull, but how much more, and other useful information.

If you dont want to sound like a bank robber or some type of freak with a death wish, maybe dont ask all of your questions all at once in the handgun forum :p :D. There are forums sections here to answer all of your questions.

-.357 is more powerfull than a 9mm

-Yes it is leagal to own a bullet proof vest in Canada, lots of civies own them.

-Yes you can also buy and own handcuffs in Canada, go to your nearest ### shop :p

City Hunter,
These members are just concerned because many anti-gun groups monitor this site. They would like to make us all look crazy!

.357 is in a league by itself. People have been known to drop dead just from standing to close to the muzzle.JK

I own a bullet proof vest and wear it every time we have a shoot. I shoot at an outdoor range annd our IPSC/IDPA pits are 25 yards deep. Ricochets happen as do AD's. Probably the reason why they are not banned for sale on this forum and why lots of guys where them. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with protecting yourself and believe me this is not a comment from a couch commando or ninja warrior wannabe. Just a retired guy at 61 who wants to make 91.

.357 is more powerful because it has much more room for powder than 9mm in a case. but there are some really hot 9mm +p ammo that match a standard .357mag load.

as for bullet proof west you don't really need one; just rub some grease on ya and the bullets will slide off :D :D :D

IM_Lugger

Maybe in velocity using a 115 gr bullet but there is no way on this earth a 9MM is going to match a .357 mag for power. Not on it's best day.

170 gr Bullet @ 1,450 fps = PF 218

125 gr Bullet @ 1,250 fps = PF 157

I would not want to be hit by either. Both of these loads shot over my chrony at 10'. For those with a pencil I rounded the velocities.

Tried grease but it affected my delicate skin. :) Also attracked flies. LOL

listen to yourself. i could barf. while i can understand being concerned with the way the poster's questions were worded, you sound like a nice trusting liberal who is happy with 10rd mags and restrictions to restrict restrictions.

but as you can have the opinion of wanting the mods to restrict your democratic freedoms, i can have the opinion of wanting them to promote it by not stopping legal sales.

manboy

NOt to mention the fact a vest cold save your life at the range.

You would be surprised how many gun owners think the PAL/POL ID cards are the best thing since sliced bread. Jeez and background checks to buy ammo. Just more regulations by beaureaucrats who know what is best for you.

How did we ever manage without all these restrictions. Think we need more. Has anybody done a study on how many deaths occur when putting on your shorts in the morning. Dangerous act...coould fall. "If it just saves one broken leg" Should be regulated. Might make the next Liberal "Red Book".

Cunuck44,

I was talking about ft-lbs rather than power factor. As far as I know in science PF is doesn't really mean anything.

Buffalo bore factory 9mm ammo;

115gr @ 1400fps = 500 ft-lbs (161pf)
124gr @ 1300fps = 461 ft-lbs (161pf
147gr @ 1175fps = 451 ft-lbs (172pf)

btw .357mag Golden Saber is only 413ft-lbs (153pf) 125gr@1220fps
