9mm?

In many ways, only you can answer that question and to do that, you have to answer a few other questions.
Do you already reload?
If so, do you have a turret or progressive press? (Reloading handgun in any sort of volume on a Single Stage gets old really quickly.)
How valuable is your "free time" and how much time are you willing to invest in reloading?
Would you rather spend that time reloading or shooting (all other things being equal)?

Unless you are doing some very precise shooting, handgun ammo is significantly less "finicky" than rifle ammo when it comes to reloading. I shoot IDPA at my local club, and at the end of the night, those of us who reload split up the used brass. We typically go home with a mixed bag of brass. I personally don't sort it by type/manufacturer, but after I take a look and check for damage, I reload what is left.

As with all reloading, if you decide to do it, take your time and be safe.

I used to go through about 800-1000 a month easily, during practice. The cost of buying that ammo off the shelf would have been way to expensive. I bought a press and some dies, it paid for itself in no time. Used brass picked up from the range or what have you is all I have ever used. I do not see the point in buying virgin brass for 9mm.
if you shoot lots, then yes reload it.

I reload 9mm for my Cx4 carbine. For brass, I bought in early spring a case (1000 rds) of IMI 124gr FMJ. Most of that brass has been shot twice, some of it three times by now. I've also got come Geco brass that I shot once or twice.

I'm a bit weird with my 9mm in that I'm trying to develop a load for "precision" at 100m (inasmuch as one can apply that term to a bullet with the ballistic coefficient of a brick thrown sideways). Because of that I mostly use bullets that are a lot more costly than the typical $0.10/round CamPro plinking and short-range stuff, so I'm not making great savings from the reloading. I am making 3-4 MOA groups, though... :)

I'd say yes. You can reload for about half the cost of buying factory ammo, assuming you're collecting brass and using commercial bullets e.g. Campro. You can get even lower if you cast your own bullets but, for me, that was too much time for too little saving.

Short answer is you won't save any money. Your cost per round will go down, but you will just end up shooting more.

Then if you catch the reloading bug, you will spend a lot of time and more money in developing loads for accuracy for each of your handguns, maybe a +P load for fun, a light load for steel shoots, oh hey there's a new coated bullet to try ......

It's definitely a fun hobby in it's own right though :)

I've been reloading .45ACP, .223, .357 magnum, .308 and 30-06 in the last year. i've been contemplating reloading 9mm and since I just bought a set of dies, I just crossed the line.

I'll be reloading 9mm soon once my 9mm factory rounds dwindles down. .40 S&W is on my hit list soon.

Im currently set up for reloading 308 on a single stage press. So I might look into doing 9mm as well and maybe look out for a deal on a turret press. Ill need to buy some factory ammo for now.

Any recommendations on a decent factory ammo to shoot out of a CZ SP01 Shadow?

Thanks

I've been using CCI 124g on my SP01 and it feeds on it without any hiccups.

What kind of shooting are you doing? I've found my Shadow eats anything. Factory 147gr will feel softer than factory 115gr. If you are going to compete in IPSC, factory will be fine, but usually a little more hot than the 125pf. For some cost savings, you could buy from a commercial reloader for normally 25% less than factory. The ammo I bought from Custom Reloading Serviced is excellent quality and much better than my own reloads. I still use it to benchmark my chrono when I'm testing new loads.

Before I started reloading 9mm, I shot Mostly Blazer Brass, My local CT has a good supply and it's reasonably priced. BTW I reload 9MM on single stage press. It is pretty time consuming, but I don't mind. I probably will look to upgrading to a Turret press in the new year.

I reload 9mm on a single stage with case. Cost per round is on par with the cost of 22lr. I would say yes it is worth it to reload. It also helps that I get free lead.

I only shoot handloads through my 9mm's.
I would never waste my time doing it on a single stage press, I do it for volume ammo supplies, not precision. My 9mm AR and my SP-01 don't seem to care what I feed them so I just slap together a load that cycles well using cheap projectiles and whatever powder I can get my hands on.
It's only worth it if you don't have anything better to do with your free time and you can get your hands on reloading components.
