Agreed, I read on another forum of a guy that was able to get 1800fps with a 115gr bullet out of his carbine, thats 827 lbs of ME. Given my less than max loads at 1500, this seems possible but maybe a bit ambitious. 357 mag "high end" loads carry about 830 - 840 so I dont see why a 9mm carbine would be less than acceptable

Accuracy and the fact that 9mm bullets aren't meant to work at the higher velocities stated.
A 110gr .357 out of a rifle is like a handgrenade when it lands.
Actually, a Hornady XTP doesn't. As part of another project, I shot several of them into various thicknesses of LEXAN with sandbags behind it. Bullet went through 1/8" - 1/4" with some expansion (Yes, i recovered them, thats why the sand bags) and stopped dead and expanded quite well when I got to 3/4". Now lead bullets, or cheap plated bullets you may have a point, but I have shot Berry triple plated at 1350 with no catasrophic results.
Edit: just to add to this, the accuracy point is a good one, but from my tests with my Kel-Tek a 2 inch, 5 round group, standing, off hand at 50 yards with iron sights is doable and repeatable with my loads I talked about so accuracy is not a problem.
While the 9mm was definately not designed as a hunting round, penetration tests show 16" in ballistics gel fairly consistantly at 15 - 25 yards, which is more than enough to hit the vitals in a deer so out of a carbine rifle wit hot loads up to 50 is doable with good shot placement, and bone strikes can be a problem for sure. With proper disipline and skill its all good
