9x19 bullet in a 9x21 barrel

I'm sorry if this has been discussed already but I couldn't find anything on it. But my question is can you shoot a 9x19 bullet in a 9x21 barrel or vice versa. Because you can shoot a .40 cal out of a 10 mm barrel, so why couldn't you shoot a 9x19 bullet out of a 9x21 barrel it would be just like shooting a .40 out of a 10 mm barrel. The reason I am asking is because I have found a 9x21 barrel that will fit into my Glock 22 for a really good price and I am wondering if 9x19 ammo will work in the 9x21 barrel.
 
9x19 will chamber in a 9x21. However, since both rounds headspace on the case mouth, there will be nothing to support 9x19 in a 9x21 chamber. The only think holding the 9x19 in place would be the extractor. The result will be unreliable ignition and probably poor accuracy. Feed reliability will probably suffer as well. Potentially dangerous as well.
The same would apply to a .40S&W in a 10mm as the .40S&W is shorter.
 
Yes I know that the 9x19 and the .40 are shorter. You can fire a .40cal in a 10mm barrel with no problems except your chamber will get dirty, so you should be able to do the same with a 9x19 in a 9x21 barrel. A .40cal brass is made from 10mm brass it is just shorter that is the only difference and if I am correct a 9x19 or 9mm brass is made from a 9x21 brass again it is just shorter and that is the only difference.

Yes I do, headspace is the distance measured from the part of the chamber that stops forward motion of the cartridge (the datum reference) to the face of the bolt, and yes only the extractor is the only thing holding it in there but if you watch the first video you will hear the guy say that when the gun is fired that the extractor holds that round even more.

then you already know the answer, you can shoot the shorter round in the longer chamber, but it's not the proper thing to do when it head spaces on the case mouth. that being said i would try a couple rounds for ####s and giggles, but i wouldn't feed it a steady diet of that.

Because those video's where for about the 40cal and the 10mm I didn't know if it was the same for the 9x19 and the 9x21 that is why plus it wasn't till after I asked did I find the videos
 
Not sure about with a glock, but if you do a broader internet search for guys using 9x19 in older 9mm Largo (9x23) pistols, you'll find some interesting reading. I know shooting 9x19 out of 9mm Largo rifles is relatively common (and again, has it's detractors), but they're set up very differently mechanically.

You may me able to get a smith to put a 2mm steel chamber insert into your barrel and get it to stay with a proper adhesive; couldn't be very expensive. It's just a ring to have your ammo headspace against.

Or buy some Starline 9x21 brass as start reloading...
