I am trying to make a plinking load for a 9x57. I will be using 9x19 pulled 147gr bullets(.355). I have no idea what powder to use. I have a few faster burning powders on hand. 296 and h-4198. General 9x57 load information load be appreciated.

I have had good results by using 358 Win starting loads in my 9X57 rifles. Both rifles tap out right on the money for 9mm at .355-.356 bore diameter. For light plinking loads it is hard to beat the 9mm pistol bullets for low noise and comfortable shooting. I have also used 35 cal .357 pistol bullets as well with decent results. Because of chamber restrictions in both rilfes I can't reliably chamber .358 dia bullets, not enough neck clearance with reformed brass in my rifles. I think I will snag a Lee bullet sizing die to do some shooting with standard 35 cal numbers sized to .355 at some point in the future.
Both rifles are light and handy sporters built on 98 Mauser actions and a lot of fun to shoot.

358 Win is the closest readily available and suitable load data, and you can safely use 8X57 as well - load data for them will both yield lower pressures in the 9X57.

For the 147 gr:

27.0-35.0 grs H4198

Win296 is a poor choice in this application.
