So I recently got a Glock 22C of EE and I feel it was truly misrepresented. The new unfired barrel was polished and shows signs of wear ( this I can live with ) but the slide finish is terrible.
At first I thought it was over cleaning or a strong chemical but when I took it down to the local GS they quickly determined that it looked like it was a attempted polish / sanding job .
Looking at the front ports shows metal and behind the rear slide shows the side-to-side sanding marks heavily into the slide

OK - so aside from a seller that doesn't seem remorseful or overly helpful ( will not be mentioned and trader rating has not been left at this time ) , how do I return the slide back to it's former glory and not a basic rattle can paint job ? woken do a OEM job and what are the costs ?
Other option I'm am considering is having it professionally finished VIA polishing to match the barrel job.

Will update this as it progresses and what finally happens to the pistol

* edit * after 6 ply of PM's 2 things are notable . First is that " it was a really light Parkerized when I got it." statement and finally the seller said " I will give you your money back and you can send it all back to me." which is good that it was FINALLY offered.
I'm still wanting to explore if it can be brought back to it's former glory for a relatively good price

side by side comparison to my G17C , but the contrast in colour is MUCH more apparent in person

------------------- update -----------------

so got her back and just assembled it and she looks great

* what was done , disassembled and sent the upper slide / extractor / rear charging plate out for Cerakote in socom blue to a professional coater.
The finish turned out better than hoped and is a rich dark matte black look that much more closely resembles the frame. With the polished barrel and slide release - it just " POPS" Installing the Burris FF3 on it today for that competition look.
Compared now to the OEM finish on the 17C , this cerakote is just gorgeous .

- thanks everyone for advice and options , without this thread I wouldn't have gone the cerakote route and am glad I did :)

I think it would look very sharp if you get the slide hard chromed, which BTW is very durable.

I had a Nickel Plated and it lasted well.

Thanks Skoal , replicate ? but not a true tennifer ( or what ever Glock uses ) ??
I know there are coating options and colour choices but I was hoping for as close to factory as I can get
And YES plinker1 --- hard chrome is a viable option , as well as a black chrome idea ( seen it on mag rims by BOSS wheels * looked incredible * )

Send it to armacoat they can replicate the factory finish thats on the newer glocks

I think the tennifer finish is illegal to reproduce now due to the chemicals, if you look at a gen 4 they make it just like that or make it a completely different color if you wish.

I also vote hard chrome since barrel is polished or cera/dura/whatever coat it if you want a specific color.

Also iirc tennifer or melonite or whatever Glock uses is a light or invisible treatment done to the metal itself, not the black stuff on the outside.

Glocks aren't meant to be safe queens.

The more you holster, draw, shoot, holster, draw, shoot that pristine G17C the more it will look like the not so pristine G22C next to it in the pics.

Glocks are tools.

So.... what to do???

Shoot 'em both & enjoy them for what they are. ;)

Nothing constructive to say. Just posting a picture that a range buddy sent to me when I complained about the fit and finish of my G20...

Lol , and the twist to the picture is " what Luke heard next was disturbing -- luke I'm your father " lol

Thanks shooter1of38 and NAA I fully agree there to be used and have wear over time from use but not accelerated wear from bubba
I have a friend that has approx 50,000 rds through his glock and holsters every time , he's hard on it during IDPA and it doesn't look as bad as this 22C does

Just trying to make lemon aid from being sold a lemon on this finish

If you are not happy with it, or did not get a deal based on the condition send it back. The EE sucks, people are ####tards with descriptions, too many dishonest morons these days....

Ok hang on a sec, if memory serves, older Glocks (no idea about current models), had two different finishes on them:

- a thin but penetrating Tennifer treatment that actually partly goes INTO the steel by a couple thou...

- a thick Parkerizing outer finish...to protect the integrity of the Tenifer, provide a "wear zone".

The wear and polishing may well be only affecting the Parkerizing finish, and not the Tennifer at all. Parkerizing on Glocks have been known in some cases to see wear from lots of holster use and so on... but never the actual Tennifer.

Now... Cerakote is available in almost any color you might want for a gun, plus a bunch that no one wants on a gun! Its really high quality stuff, worthy of serious consideration for its protective qualities.

You should look at Armacoat Nitron or Hot black oxide finish. I personally like Nitron but I'm a SIG guy...

As for Glock finish, if you research a bit with Google, you'll find out that Glock shifted away from the tennifer finish ~ early 2012 for EPA reasons. There are lot of reports around that the new finish is a lot less durable. I have a 2007 glock and the finish looks amazing on it; just like they day I got it. The new finish is duller, lighter and looks more like parkerizing. It's very fragile, a few holstering will thrash it.

I've seen a few new Gen4 hit my local range and there seem to be a new finish which is very dark and matte; I don't know about this one. Is GLOCK experimenting? :p

the finish you have on those Glocks is the old Glock finish, which is very durable in comparison to the current finish. The current finish in production is very light but is a lot more grippy, it is just a paint though, it will wear off in those areas where it comes in contact with your holster, etc.

That gun has been tinkered with and 'I THINK' that finish is worn like that because the former owner seemed to had installed some aftermarket sights (cheap aftermarket sights require fitting) and what you see there seems to be the drag/track marks of the aftermarket sights that had not been properly fitted before installation hence rubbing during the installation process. I like to add a bit of oil for when installing sights, it prevents binding and is cleaned off with gun cleaner after. I have done this several times for many rifles and there is no evidence of the oil drifting the sight nor the oil staying under the sight. The cleaner takes it all off.

I would send that gun back to the seller in a jiffy. You are looking at $200 plus to refinish that slide. It is not worth it at all.
If your seller is not taking it back, first I will leave a nice EE rating for him explaining what happened to prevent other buyers. Then I would buy some glow in the dark night sights that are just big enough to cover those areas, like a set of TFO (truglo). I am not an expert with the Glock old finish, never worn one off to see if rust develops after the finish is gone, so...

Good luck.

Unless you got a smoking deal on the G22….I'd return it for a full refund (including the cost of return shipping). Once it's done look for another one.
This purchase has left a bad taste in your mouth…..
