Nice rifle.
I read something on Hathcock that he carried both Winchester 70 and the Remington 700, and in both 308 and 30-06. Not sure about this next part, but I remember hearing someone say that one of Hathcock's favourites was a 308 built on Win70 long action receiver as he was seating the bullets out as far as possible.

In 1942 Winchester supplied Model 70 rifles to the USMC for consideration as a sniper rifle. They were sent with 24" sporter barrels and a smattering with 22" barrels. It was roundly poo pooed by the brass. Didn't stop the Marines from packing examples off to Guadalcanal and Korea. My replica is production year 1937 and shoots MOA with Lake City 30-06. Just need a legit or properly worked in 1907 sling. The bottom photo is from a US auction. The installed return spring on the scope is incorrect for sniper. Scope was installed by Jason at Gunco.

were issued with various scopes, Redfield 3x9,
Bushnell 3x9 with post, weaver 3x9
One was sold last year at auction
I bought one that was in the same serial number
range and built it
I found an original Winchester 3006 heavy barrel
and barreled it up to a post 64 3006 receiver
Still have to get it mounted into a Vietnam war
copy of a Winchester wood stock
Did that with the 308 rifle
Takes a lot of time to put them together
If you find the correct era scopes, buy them, seen to be
available in Canada from time to time

Some help please. Once I have zeroed the rifle, do I undo the set screws in the turrets to slip the scales? The internet seems to want to keep it a secret. These are first generation mounts from HI-LUX so their videos only show second generation. Don't want to loosen the the screws and have an explosion of tiny parts.
Just called HI-LUX, as the manuals lack this info. Loosen the set screws to slip the scales. No mental illness inducing event will occur.

It is on the heavy barrels. However, if you think I'm gonna drill and tap the barrel on a 1937 (second production year) M70 to get 1/4 MOA adjustment, you're high.
honestly i love the look of this rifle, i believe its the nicest looking model 70 I've ever seen. i love the color, the wood, the worness. the only thing i would change is the scope rings to something older lookingPics of the 1907 Pattern sling I recently obtained.
Cool as hell..... Tributes are fun...not zakly correct but have a feel and look to them but at affordable/attainable prices.
Tribute being a good term IMO...these were real rifles pressed into specialized service based on a need and often at the suggestion reccomendation of the shooters themselves who were likewise effectively filling a need and rising to the occasion.

The vintage match requires pre-1953 configurations.
I put together a 3006 M70 Winchester with an original Winchester 3006 factory heavy barrel
Found the barrel and a vintage Winchester 3006, found vintage heavy barrel Winchester stock
It goes with a 1968 308 M70 Winchester factory heavy barrel rifle , which was a few
numbers away from a 308 military M70 sold at auction by RIA
