A 222 Remington

The first few badgers I shot when I was a kid were shot with a .22 rimfire. If they were not headshot, they made it back to there hole every time.

No different than an adult beaver IMO.
You kill it, but it's more akin to shooting a log of the same size. Underwhelming.

Yer right on that one. The 8o lb. lump I bonked with headshot using a .222 wasn't very messed up, but the bugger did make a tail slap on the water as the bullet connected.

Nice. For the amount of time Ive spent out, I would of thought I would of seen more then 3 badgers in my whole life.

I did get my first one a month ago. Seen him run to his hole and waited maybe 5minutes and he popped out. Was sitting at the ready with my 22 and shot it in the a neck. It feel back just into his hole and died. I really wanted to pull it out for a good picture but didnt want to reach in there for it. lol

I see them in the mountains but have never seen one out east.

Yes lots around lately. 45 killed so far this year.
The trick to pulling badgers out of their hole when they’re in so deep you need to lay on your stomach? Be quick. I’ve had a couple hissing at me from below but no real attacks. Bluffs.

Followed this big guy across a long flat and into a dug out. He went for a mid afternoon swim while I closed the distance. He finished, shook off, stuck his head down a gopher hole and I shot him. Who knew badgers liked to swim.

Yes. But for some reason the badgers were quite active.

Had to grab this one...1967 ZKK-601, pop up peep, flip down rear, set trigger, pretty decent shape. Always wanted an early complete ZKK in any chambering, 222 is one of my favorites so couldn't pass it up.
Very neat rifles.

The earliest handful of badgers were shot with a 222 mag, a few with that 223 Rem I built but probably 55 were killed with the 222 sako. It’s deadly.

I don’t like varmint hunting near houses. But a good new area had a few around. I got permission in June, but when I was slowly, suspiciously, driving by in late august I found myself in a bit of a situation. Rancher didn’t like the look of me, pictures of license plate taken… It ended ok but some people have a short memory, and I have poor communication.
