A 222 Remington

Another L461 Vixen in .222Rem that I've never sold. It has taken it's fair share of 'hogs. I bought it as a barreled action back in the early 80's and put it in a custom Bishop stock that I bought as a semi-inletted stock at the time.

Finally completed my .222 quest. Tried to keep mostly period correct with the VXiii scope and one piece base for the 1977 BDL. Appears to have neither been carried or shot much, looking forward to load development:)

Sako and 222 seem to go hand in hand. Here's my Sako Vixen, topped with an old Burris Fullfield 4X12 scope with a fine reticle. My favorite bullet to shoot is the Hornady 50gr SPSX, a perfect combo for dusting ground squirrels.

Here is one .222 you don't see very often.
1 of 200 made in 1966 for the International Running Deer Match.
Barrel code-AN =March 66

That’s a keeper for sure. Thanks for sharing

Great rifle and a great cartridge. I’ve had a lot of luck with a few 222’s with IMR4198 and either 40gr Vmax or 40gr NBT bullets. If you can’t get the vmax to shoot with a max dose of 4198 then try the 40gr Noslers. I had them shooting over 3600 FPS in a couple rifles into little clusters. Can’t wait for the hot summer to go away so I can bring out the rifles.

Varmint rifles are like shotguns. Buy two and mysteriously a third is sure to follow........

They are breeding here alright.
The gun show this morning. A 1976 Remington Model 700 BDL 222 Rem just laying on a guys table. People walking by. I pretended not to look...

I like it when you pull the trigger on an old Model 700 varmint rifle and it’s a gritty 6lbs. 45 year old factory paint over the trigger adjustment screws was still there.

That's a very nice find friend. This cartridge and rifle suite each other very well.
Prettiest guardian of the home farm if I may say so.....

What a beauty. Looking forward to seeing a pic of that draped over a pile dogs this winter. Nice find.
