A 223 Remington

They can make a mess of cattle pasture. They dig big deep holes digging out gophers and for their den. Their holes are hazardous to people on horseback. The black pioneer cowboy John Ware was killed when his horse tripped in a badger hole and threw him. One of the ranches I hunt had a young guy thrown from his horse recently. Luckily neither the horse or cowboy was seriously hurt.

I can dig that...if its a cattle/riding area. got ya.

Wouldn't be a fan of putting down cows with broken legs either.

I accidentally stepped into a badger hole hidden by long grass and nearly snapped my fricken leg in half. Luckily I wasn't running. I went prob 3/4 the way up my shin into the hole.

One time I was out shooting gophers with my Jack Russel Terrier. We came across a large hole that had been filled in with dirt. Badgers will push dirt back up the hole and sleep underground. As I was standing over this curious hole and the dog sniffing around, I heard .... sensed .... a deep and ominous growl come from right under my feet. I suspect Mr Badger was not happy about us hanging out at his front door. We left as a 22 single shot wasn't gonna put a pissed off badger down quickly and JRTs are way to aggressive to leave a dangerous badger alone.

Thanks SS.
I had a 17 Rem Sako A1 for a while. It was accurate and nice but I prefer the 22 cals as I’m not much of a gopher shooter. I can see the attraction to the 17 Rem though.
