A 284 Winchester

I had seen this poor SA Stainless M70 get passed around on the EE too much and figured it was my turn.
Originally in 243 Winchester it shot pretty well. But a Bartlien 9 twist 5r .284 barrel was sitting and my dream of building a 284 Winchester happened.
The trigger was dropped, the mag box was opened and the firing pin spring was upgraded. Finished at 24" with a VX2 3-9 CDS it shoots 140 gr bullets at 3100 fps with Winchester brass.
Weighs just over 8 lbs as pictured.
Just wanted to share.

My pet load is 56.0 grs IMR 4350 140gr Nosler PT in my .284 Ruger M77 flat bolt .

Try H414/Win 760 with a mag primer 140gr bullet.

Thanks for the complements.
The loads it appears to like are the last two on that target
58.5 RL 22 and a 140TTSX at 2.97" for 3125 fps
55.0 H4350 and a 145 LRX at 3.00" for 3100 fps

Crap, I went the other way.
I have all the reloading components and no shooter.
Maybe the Kamloops gun show will be forgiving.

Thanks. No, not really. The rear spacer in the mag box was removed so up to 3.05" OAL would work. I haven't tried any long heavy bullets though which would likley be better suited to a full long action.

Thanks , bought it new way back in 1975 at Custom Gun Shop in Edmonton , been a prized possession . Just a great plain rifle with Leupold MX4 scope that has always done it job . Don't think I have ever readjusted the scope in 30+ years .
Hope you get the same enjoyment out of yours .

Beauty!! I have a distant relative as well. Slabbed M700LH with a 24” Shilen #1, Wyatt extended box, Brown pound’r, Gentry 3 position safety with a Leupy 2-8x36 in Talley’s. 6lb10oz. Nosler 140 ABs at 2940fps. Love it.
