"a 30-06 is all you need"

I personally don't care for the -06, never owned one until recently. The only reason I do own one now is it was what the rifle was chambered for. I always wanted an FN Mauser action High Standard built JC Higgins and thanks to CGN, I found one.

It's a great caliber, but too common and boring for my taste, but the ol fella was right, it's all you need, however it's not our only choice, and not our only want.

A 50 BMG will handle anything in the world, including rabbits, but it's definetly not an ideal bunny popper.;)

Please save the bunnies

Personally 30-06 doesnt appeal to me. I already have too many calibers to choose from.

Imo, 22lr(inexpensive plinking), 17 hmr (small game hunting because of rimfire laws in qc), 223(ar15 or paper punching for cheap), 308(LR paper and hunting)

300 win mag might be nice for paper at +1000 yards, or moose shots at more than 3-400 yards? I never shoot that far. I don't like the recoil of the 300 win and finch alot unless the rifle has a big brake and a stock full of lead.
If I ever need another 300 win for moose, I'll just get a cheap savage and a 3-9 hunting scope and be done with it for cheap. Too bad I sold mine that was exactly this, with a custom threaded brake.

Then 338 lapua is cool, but too much recoil and cost, no real use for me. Same applies to 50 bmg.
