All I can provide you with is prices. You'll have to contact the stores to see if they're even willing to ship the ammo. Most stores won't bother, it's just too much hassle and expense.

I just picked up some of the South African ammo from Williams Arms in Port Perry, Ontario and I thought I'd share some info:

Non-corrisive Berdan Primed,
147gr Match bullet FMJ
BALL M1A2 7,62x51mm
Manufactured in South Africa

battle packs and boxes stamped "566 A/84"
cartridges headstamped "84" and "12"

Looks like they're slightly roll crimped into a non-serrated cannelure, and have three stakes on the primer to hold them in.

That's all I've got for now. I'll take one apart and also shoot some of it and let y'all know. :)

I bought two boxs of 20 at a gun show. I found it to be reasonably accurate, 2-3 inches at 100, but it stuck in the chamber of both my rifles, a pre 64 and a model 700. As long as I whacked the bolt with my hand it would extract, but I dont know if it is just this particular lot (1984) or if its all like this. This has not happened to md before. What is your experience before I by a few hundred.

I just purchased 3 cases from Wolverine as I was in the area with work. It is $428 a case or $390 per case for 2 or more.....I was hoping for the lower price as noted here! Oh well....

I will be checking out the prices at TSE as I will be there next month!

Thanks for this thread Cancer.

I am broke, so does anyone want to split a case from Districorp? They will only sell the two quantities listed: 980 or 1240

Thanks

Just got off the phone with Al Simmons in Hamilton. They're selling it at $555 for a case of 1260, $65 for the battle pack of 140. Forgot what they said for 20 rounds.

Did anyone get some from Wolverine for the $328/1260rds when it got misprinted? Or did they catch that before anyone ordered?

Does anyone know if any of the dealers will lower their prices if someone buys this ammo in larger quantities? For example purchases of 5 cases or more?

Wolverine and Districorp list a bulk purchase rate. They're probably the only distributors that have a large enough inventory to move bulk product.

I've been informed by one of the stores in Ontario selling this SA surplus that Canadian stocks are pretty much dried up already. :(

Does anyone know of any places still selling surplus .308?
Apparently Wolverine might still have some.

Since the SA supply has sold out so fast, anyone know where the next supply of .308 may come from or when to expect it?

I wouldn't hold your breath for any to come soon, or in any significant quantities. Word on the street is that the contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan are buying up all the surplus military cartridges they can find. Apparently their companies can front more cash and need more ammo than all of Canada combined.

Perhaps when there's peace in the middle east, then we'll have lots of 7.62 and 5.56 surplus again.
