a bad day for gopher-dom

NIce jobs. but where is the s/n ???

The serials on the original spot on the rear left of the reciever. If you look closely you can see it in one of the final pictures.

This is the end piece before and after it was cut internally. I used a drill bit to make the end circles clean and then removed the rest by hand... a little rough here but was good once it was clean up:p

Cutting up a $2500 rifle, you're balls are bigger than mine!

It looks damn nice! How sturdy is it?

I've run pushing few thousand rounds though it so far. So far there are no issues and it's cycled flawlessly. The true connection is a mix of a stainless steel mechanical spine and set screws in specific spots. While the rest of the bond is chemically welded/bonded and very strong in its own right I've considered it more toward the cosmetic. Even so I wouldn't feel to comfortable breeching a deadbolt with the stock but then again I don't think I would with a folding fibre reinforced resin either so perhaps its a mute point. Its likely not a strong but for my purposes its certainly proving more than robust enough for my purposes.

Accuracy is a moderately better but I've attribute that to the increased level of comfort for the pistol grip as compared to the original thumbhole(which I found exceedingly awkward for my hands) and the shorter LOP rather than any benefits related to the mechanics of the modifcation.

Isn't any more accurate from the hip though(lol)...

how long is that barrel now? so you have had the registration changed to restricted now? how does that work?

Whatever a K length barrel is... about 320mm I think so 12.5 inches. I had to apply for the change to restricted with the CFC before I could import the barrel. Also the internals had to be removed from the lower but it was always my intention to run with the SL8 trigger group anyway so no loss. The rest of the piece's were a bit here and there. Off the top of my head it was a K front end (barrel, fore stock, push rod, flash hider), the 4 position lower shell, a replacement hinged rear end, a G36C rear stock, G36C top rail and about 3 years worth or Big Rock Traditional Ale. Getting the approval was about a 6 month-er and I'm still waiting on the decision on the magazine modification(but they did give me a temporary letter to indicate that the magazine mod adjudication process is active). Here a pic of the mag mod and how it looks...

Essentially I just secured the 5 round magazine components in a 30 round case and filled the rest with fake rounds. You can see the 5 round follower and spring in red with the 30 round spring and follower under the fake rounds.

I'll just have to wait and see. It's just eye candy but for me I like the appearance and am a bit detail oriented.

People think you're going to start WW3 with any firearm. It doesn't matter what you're holding when they see you, they're just that arrogantly stupid.
:slap:
Wow, I have never been hastled like that, even when doing some experimenting. The worst I was told was can I see your hunting license.
I told the officer, i am not here for hunting. I am target shooting.
The CO had a pistol so we took a few rounds with his .357 win mag and I shot my (then ruger mini 14)

After a year of hunting for parts its another addition to the stable. Best part is being non restricted it can go camping, reach out and touch the parasitic infestation at the farm or, well, go virtually anywhere, with no hassles. Sometimes I just love Canada!

nah, not good enough. Scope is mounted way too high, makes horrible set up for hunting smaller creatures. I like Shazam's set up much better.

Me too... that's why I ended up taking it off and putting on my AR.

It's one of the characteristics of the G36 family style that I don't necessarily favour. Not sure what the line of thinking was but I like my line of sight as close to the barrel as possible... especially at ranges of under 200m.

That is some ballsy work right, but the finished product is so nice.

What did you cut the receiver with?

A more patient man would have used a hobby type scrolling band saw (which would have been less work) but I did mine all by hand except for the using a drill bit for the 45 degree angle to eliminate the stress point(I pretend to be an engineer at work)

How did you bond the plastic or was it welded.

It was bonded with Devcon II which is designed to bond products like Nylon. very tough yet it has a moment of elasticity comparible to the synthetic stock of the SL8(fibre reinforced Nylon 66) I believe. There are plastic welders that are availible but I couldn't find any documentation to state that it would provide a stronger bond.

The bond itself will never be as strong which is why there are the stainless steel spines mechanically attached. This is where the true strength comes from. The wife dropped it twice, once onto concrete at the range, and there's been no ill effect asides from my contempt for her ability to hang on to it:slap:.

 Either way, nice work and it seems to hold up well :)
