A beagle's first time. Will she come back?

I don't have much experience with Beagles other than my sister has one head strong little bugger :D

But, I'm nearing the end of a difficult training of Rosco the knot head twice surrendered to the spca escape artist mut. Don't know what he is, looks a bit shephardy but leaner and barks like a hound when he's excited. He was a year when we got him about a year ago and man, did I say he's a knot head??

He and Suki a smaller younger mut are in the woods with me daily as I can usually take them to work. They get at least one good walk a day and Rosco has taken off after deer, bears - who knows what else and ignored my calls several times. (Suki has come back right away every time but once). Usually starting the truck works, but often not for a long time like a half hour at times. What I do then is wait till I see him returning and take off a little faster than he can run. After several kilometres once he's pretty much foaming and right out of breath I stop, open the door and let him in. I give him no praise, but don't loose my cool either. Usually a firm squeeze of his ear, one "bad dog", shut the door and then ignore him for a couple hours.

I'd love to tell you guys that this has worked wonders, but it hasn't. There has been slow and steady improvement though and I figure in another year or so he should be controllable  The spca warned me so I can't complain.. :runaway:
