A Blast from the Past. Back in the Good Ole Days

I had a free one in the 70s, spent a summer on the range with the Battalion Shooting Team at Sarcee Barracks. Did about 200-250 rounds a day with the C1 from 500 to 100 yards and my second gun was the C2 shooting from prone. Excellent rifle, wish I could have bought one. I did get a Lee Enfield C NO. 7 with the box that I still have. The days of free ammo are well past now.
I was a machine gunner as well and my No. 2 and I had 4 x 220 rounds belts on us plus whatever was on the belt in the gun, it was made in 1943 by the Singer Sewing Machine Company I remember to this day. Our personal weapon was a Sterling SMG when a machine gunner.

I bought a "bitzer" for $150 - hand selected, BSA receiver, Aussie Upper and a brand spanking new Canadian barrel, stupid accurate for an FN. Anyone else miss CIA?

Sounds like mine , minus the new barrel and an honest 2 to 2.5 , 5 shot group , shooter . I'll even date myself further , I used mine to shoot White-Tails with , legally no less . I actually shot a White-Tail with a converted to semi only BAR back in the day when it was perfectly legal to do so , ridiculously heavy , but the deer didn't seem to care .

In the early '80's I had an Israeli metric FN, and sold it, like a fool [although metric mags weren't all that available]. A few years later I picked up a BSA L1A1 and enough FNC1 parts to make it look like a C1. It still sleeps in my gun locker...waiting for the day when it's legal to take it out of the house again. I don't think either rifle cost me more than a few $hundred... Good times...

part in parcel to idiots causing others to say we need tighter controls.....if people minded their own business and obeyed to the law to the greater degree, we wouldn't be regulated ad nauseum

There's a saying about never underestimating the power of idiots in large groups, and Canada is pretty much the perfect example of this.

I recall with fondness firing the C1A1 in cadets back in the 80s. It's too bad that common sense was the first victim of new legislations beginning in the late 80s, and it seems to be a race downhill ever since.

I have a nice cabinet full of unusable FN, Ishapore, etc rifles. I know how the AR et al crowd feels. For all the "well, I don't have any of them Army guns" crowd, stand by. You're on the government list as well. For example, the ridiculous "ban" on Butler Creek 25 round magazines for 10/22's. We have the Mounties making up their own little rules now. Canada has sunk to banana republic status in my eyes.

$180 each? I'll take a crate! On a more serious note, is anything currently available in 308 with a box magazine that's non restricted apart from the FNAR competition?

I bought crates way cheaper than that back in the day. One year at the Calgary show when it was great, Thur. night , checking tables, found a box of misc. stuff for 20.oo. There as a couple mounts, no name on one , the other L1?, a few switches, safety sears, springs, and 2 C1 rear sights. I gave a brown one, as 20.oo was silly. The fellow thought I was paying too much.
But he did want new + prices for cooey parts.
Remember H.H. he was a good supplier for new wood, barrels, etc.
