I got my buddy a used Browning A-bolt hunter in 30-06 the model year is 1986
He took the gun out the other day and shot it the 1st 2 where dead on and the the 3rd went wrong, It blew the trigger and trigger guard off the gun.
He was shooting factory Win super X 180 grain ammo.
Any body else had this problem with A-bolts?

I have never heard of an unmodified A-Bolt doing such a thing. Before you go any farther with this, a qualified gunsmith should inspect it and try to determine why this happened. Is the ammo or the rifle at fault? Has the rifle been altered?

This is the second 30-06 using factory Win super X 180 grain ammo I have read about in the past two weeks. The other rifle was a Springfield 03.

A friend came into work the other day with some pics of what is left of his Springfield. First shot on opening day of Elk season, 180gr. W-W Super-X factory ammo. Don't have many more details yet, but hoping to get him to register to fill in the blanks.

GunTech the gun looks unmodifed, He talked to the guys at Reliable Gun and they said they have to up grade it to a A-bolt 2 trigger and trigger guard but it will take some maching from what I understand. I bought the gun for him as he's a new shooter, kinda fell like a dink about it and what worries me more is I have a a-bolt as well.

It sounds like the ammo is the common denominator?? But I'd use the advice offered and take it to bitsofpieces in Delta for a second opinion!!

My A-bolt has never done that and I've fed it some pretty hot reloads?

I would have the headspace checked on the rifle using steel go and no go gauges... if the headspace is correct and the bore does not have a bulge in it, I would blame the ammunition. This should be documented because if the owner did nothiong wrong, either Browning or Winchester should be paying for this.
