Hi Fellers.

I usually don't post here, preferring instead to torment my moral and intellectual superiors in the black rifle and black powder forums.:nest:

Anyhow- I ran into a fine gent at the gun club the other day shooting a Springfield M14 National Match rifle. I have always loved the M14 and one day I would love to go to Camp Perry and shoot in the stubfart division or something. I was even going to pimp out a Nork at one point but the gun safe exploded from internal pressure and I was forced (at gun point from my wife) to sell it and a few others.

In any event: either through premature senility or chronic foolishness I was under the impression that the Springfield M14's were restricted while the Norks were not. (I assumed that this asinine law came about because the boys at the Nork factory are commies as are the liberal swine that devised our gun laws here in Canada). Is this correct?

Good grief! If I was wrong I need to get on the EE and rectify this mistake! I would LOVE to pot a deer next year with a Springfield in a manly calibre! I like my black rifles, and I love my black powder cartridge guns...but there is no denying the grace and functionality of the Springfield M14, made in America as God intended it!;)

Springfields are non-restricted, provided the barrel isn't shorter than 18.5". Norks are non-restricted. The only ones that are restricted are the Springfield ones under 18.5" barrel length. The American military surplus M14's are prohibited due to either being full auto or converted auto.

Springfields are non restricted as long as it is not the SOCOM. Remember that you can't take your Nork to Camp Perry as it is a Chinese made gun.

Springfield M1A's are not M-14's any more than an M305 is. Both are civilian semi-auto only copies of an M-14. As mentioned, the only models that are evil are the SA Inc., et al, marketing dept., short barreled, rifles. There was no such thing as an M-14 Carbine.
You wouldn't be allowed to take an M305 into the U.S. anyway. Banned for importation by Clinton to punish the Red's for their human rights policies. HAHAHAHAHA. There were banned because of Slick Willy's anti-firearm ownership policies. He didn't want inexpensive copies of battle rifles being imported from China.

Well thank you boys! You made my day!

Sorry to be a pain, boys...but do any of you in the Edmonton area have one that I could try a few rounds with? I will pay for them. The fine fella at the range yesterday offered me a few shots but he was shooting Lapua brass with turned case necks and I didn't want to go blapping off his match ammo. I would happily gobble up a few rounds of practice ammo though...!

Who is the best dealer for these things in Alberta, in your opinion? I gotta have one!!!!

I'm in Edmonton, do you have a place to shoot? As to a dealer, you may have had your epiphany a bit late, after 15 years of mostly steady supply, the M305's have largely dried up, at the dealer level, anyway.

Imagine the ruckass if he did good shooting a chinese rifle down there!!!!

Well...he'd experience a SERIOUS ruckus with American border guards...

Since around 1993, it has been totally illegal to bring Chinese made guns into the USA. You'd be charged. This stems from legislation when early in Bill Clinton's first administration, a huge smuggling operation was uncovered at a dock in LA. Chinese import company got caught trying to bring containers for sale to gangs, incl full autos, supressed handguns and SMGs.

Basically, if its a Norinco or Polytec, semi centerfire, dont even try.

There MIGHT be a recent exception with shotguns being imported to USA, but that wont affect you.

If you want an M14 to take to the USA, get a USA made receiver stamped "M1A" from either Springfield, SEI, LRB (top quality AFAIK) and build it. You should be safe with something like that. Or just buy a Springer!

I wouldn't call your problem a brainfart of biblical proportion, voting liberal or ndp would be a biblical brain fart. You were just a little confused is all, now go and purchase the rifle you desire before your #### falls off.

Sometimes fantasies can be shared.

All retailers in Canada have sold out of M305's for now and rumor has it they will now double in price if and when they arrive. So for the money put it into a Springfield instead of still having to spend upgrade money on an M305.
You can get a Springfield from about $1700.00 to $3000.00 depending on the models. I would buy a National match and be done with it unless you wanted to throw an action into a M14.ca Featherlite stock or reasonable facsimile and add a scope to it, maybe start with a loaded or standard model and build from there.
Fact is there is a million possible permutations of your potential vision of your rifle so do some research first.
Check out the equipment exchange you may find something there too.
I am thinking about putting an M305 with upgrades or Springfield action into a Featherlite stock in OD green, with a dark earth UBR butt stock and AR pistol grip topped with an ARMS#18 scope mount and Leupold Patrol 3-9. That is my present fantasy rifle yours will most likely be different but it is so fun to drool and learn at the same time.

Yes Sir!

Problem is they seem to be hard to procure right now. I want a super match and I just heard back from the fine fellers at Wanstall's that 'they have them on order but no ETA'. :(

When I heard that, my dink fell off.

Oh well, the wife will never miss it! HAR HAR HAR!!!

I think you also want to be talking to Clay @ Prophet River.

They're successfully importing quite a wide variety of M1A's at what- for Springfield M1A's- are very reasonable prices.

They have an order coming in the next couple of weeks- you may want to be on the contact list.

that being said, i got mine through irunguns and i was quite happy with the whole transaction.

Edit- irunguns is als selling an m14f made by james river armory- their m1 garand rebuilds have been getting a lot of praise on this board so the m14f might also be worth considering.
