a bren question

I recently came accross a ad from military gun supply.com where they are showing a bren Mk2 semi auto(and other cool stuff) for a reasonable price US$. Im wondering if anyone has more info as to wether the recievers are new (ala the browning 1919s et al) or if they are converted autos which would be not so good :( Im wondering if the recievers are in fact new if anyone (marstar or anyone else) would be bringing them in to canada(pending their approval by the powers that be)? Just a open question as i sense a demand on here for a bren or two and wondering if we may see them here in the future. Perhaps a marstar rep or anyone else could give their opinion...thanks in advance..
 
Receivers will have to be new to meet US rules. Action will also be redesigned to function from a closed bolt position to satisfy ATF.
 
The rcmp tecs will require a sample to test they will say what mods IF any are needed for approval if your not a bus you will likley NOT get it back
 
- MGS in Texas are working on a semi-auto version of the Bren with a newly manufactured receiver.

- They have also produced a semi-auto version of the Russian DP-28, those are completed and ready to ship out.
 
Many of the semi-autos available in the US are rewelded origional receivers, modified at the same time with an extra bar welded inside which will preclude the installation of non-modified internals. These type of Brens would be deemed converted autos here in Canada.
There has been some buzz recently about a newly made Bren receiver, which will feature the same type variations to it to exclude non-modified internals. The expected price is around $1600-1800 US (which will be par with the Canadian dollar soon). These ought to be OK here in Canada, but time will tell
 
yup sten colector is correct, but I think that some of these produced are with completely new receivers..
brp does a mg 42 with a completely new receiver, not a reweld..
I think that most of the rewelds are done by home made units..The batf does not oppress home made firearms like the canadian government does

The VZ-58 made it in because it is semi-auto only AND the importer was able to provide evidence that the receiver had never been assembled into a firearm before, the latter being key.

Without starting up the whole VZ58 can of worms again, the real key was that the rifles had not left the factory as a full auto, and rather left the origional factory as a semi auto. With most of the receivers being dated around 1961 or so, the importers and factories word was taken for this. Note that they now mill the date off the receivers so as to not be quite so controversial.

As to shooting the Bren semi auto, I've fired a few full auto brens over the years, and while a 5 round neutered Bren would not be quite as much fun, it still represents such a piece of Commonwealth history that I would have to have one. I own both a semi auto sterling, and a semi auto 1919, and neither are a disappointment.
 
The semi-auto's MGS is marketing are built on newly manufactured receivers. Should be quite importable with that in mind.
 
Depends on the case. Mine cycles HXP and other recent ammo just fine. old FN cases have seperations. Easy to tell the round has been fired in a BREN as the primer indent is rectangular instead of round.
 
I can completely argee with sten-collector. I have tired to import a semi-Bren re-weld and it was rejected. The worst thing about it was that the tech said what a nice gun it was and he really wished he could bring one in. But, alas he had no choice.

So you don't get too many reloads out of the brass?

Odd, mine doesn't dent the necks on .303.

Have been trying to make it work with 7.62x39. Have the chinese parts, but while it feeds and fires, it won't keep going. The chinese gas regulator has larger openings but it still is not enough.

Don't want to mess with the return spring as that could only cause more problems.

Any sources for the Blank firing mags? Only have one. would like a couple more.
