Haven't really been a black rifle kind of guy in the past, but thinking about getting one in advance of possibly joining the Canadian forces in the spring.

What type of of ar setup would be best to mimic the sizing and setup of a standard cf c7?

Does anyone make anything like this complete (without optics) in the $1300 range used?

Almost all AR's have the same manual of arms and to my understanding a C7 is just a regular standard AR with full auto. Just buy a norc m4 and work with it. That way if it's not for you and you don't go into the military you didn't spend 4000$ trying to clone something bland.

C7 is a rifle length AR with a collapsable stock. If your going have rails your most likely gonna have the KAC RAS M5. C8 is a 16" AR with a carbine length gas system and a collapsable stock, if you get issued rails or decide to purchase your own I'd suggest the KAC RAS.

If you want to join in the spring , you better to go in the recruiting center NOW all the job are close. We are not going to have a lot of position next year.

The waiting list is longer every day ....

Here's a little advice that you might not want to hear.

Unless you're going into the combat arms: Infantry, Artillery or Combat Engineer, the most you're going to do with your rifle is qualify once per year. Other than that if you're lucky enough to actually see your rifle, most of the time you'll be shooting blanks.

I don't care how good a shot you are or how much you practice, it's a ##### to get a good group with blanks.

I disagree, I consistently get sub- moa 10 round groups at 1000m with blanks... Sadly I'm the only one who can see them, but it's true...
Honest...

Don't you mean fixed stock for the C7..

I would suggest to the OP to invest in good running shoes and run 6km every morning and force march with 60lbs backpack for 6km every day.;) Much better investment.

But, for a rifle, get a NORC M4 and practice with it, you won't see any major difference (very little) vs a 20" rifle for practice shooting.

Armoured Corps is still a combat arm as well unless things changed since I retired in May. That being said though, the Armoured Corps seems to hate/fear personal weapons as time devoted on their proper use and training is piss poor.

The Armoured Corps focuses on turret mounted weapons and doesn't seem to factor in that eventually you have to dismount the vehicle and still protect yourself and others.

Get any D.I. AR platform as other than the stocks, they work the same.

the C7A2 has the collapsible stock, and in most cases green furniture. A1 has the fixed stock. and its too bad you didnt post this 3 days ago, i had a A2 clone on EE that i just traded. . :p (was looking for ~$1000)

and as for joining, i say don't wait, join now, if you're going reserves there is a better chance of getting on course next summer.. if you are going reg force, then dont worry about it..

he is right about that too. i is medtech, and we go to the stated once a year for our annual weapons qualifications. thats about the extent of our weapons handling... i might re-muster... lol

Armoured guys don't do much walking and even less rifle work around here. The point is that this person does not need to spend money on a rifle to practice.

I agree with the post about getting good shoes and lugging weight. It will be time well spent for BMQ.

I served in the Air Defence and you should have seen the generally pathetic level of marksmanship in that "Combat Arm". Most guys would have been lucky to put all their rounds onto a Fig 11. At that point it is kinda difficult to think in terms of shooting "groups".

Get fit as stated above, and getting an AR will save you time to work on other things during basic! Also be the Grey man in BMQ it is always the best route!

I am one of the best examples of where training to be the best shot you can be will get you in the military. Up to and including a shiny Queens Medal, three weeks in the Wainwright of Australia (Puckapunyal), three weeks drinking bitter in England, 10 days eating BBQ in Arkansas. I think the best part was getting up each morning knowing I was not just there shooting with the best in the world I was beating most of them.

Can't echo the sentiment of being in great shape enough.

If you can't control your breathing (catch your breath)...you're going to be hitting nothing but ground/sky regardless of what you are firing.

Start pounding the pavement now buds, and don't neglect your upper body strength as well.

Finding the fine line between great aerobic/anaerobic fitness isn't that much of a difficult task.
