Was in LA for a week to be factory trained on my companies new product line, and obviously was out and about in my downtime. \found these two massive milsurps. The Iowa is effing cray. Very cool experience. Couldnt get a tour of the sub when I was there sadly. Russian foxtrot class.

The US memorial battleships are stunningly impressive. I've had the good fortune to have visited the Massachusetts, Alabama, North Carolina and the Missouri. Only the New Jersey, Wisconsin, Iowa and Texas left to go. I'm going to be in San Diego in a while and will see the carrier, USS Midway which is a monument there. I visited the carrier Intrepid at New York City as well and found it a worthwhile experience. And I'm not even a Navy guy. Staying in a hotel room on the Queen Mary would be very cool, but its tough for me to find a reason to go to LA.

I have been to Midway, Texas and Iowa.

I have a photo of the Iowa front guns as my wallpaper.

Midway is the best IMHO. I spent 4 hours on her and still did not see it all.

The Texas is smaller then you would think

I was on the USS New Jersey a few years back and you could go into the turrets, they were pretty awesome. The USS Olympia is across the river and is a great contrast between pre-Dreadnaught and post-Dreadnaught warship design.

The Russian submarine is interesting.

There was a Russian submarine on display in New Westminster for a while.

It was set up so you could go through the interior.

Toejam thread??!?!? ;)

Cool pics though! I toured the Foxtrot Class U-521 Soviet sub when it was moored in New Westminster, B.C. back in 1995. Still have the commemorative U-521 Zippo I bought after the tour... Though, if I had known, I should have saved that money and picked up one of the M40 Stahlhelms from Westley Surplus across the road instead that were selling for $50.... :(

I remember the Russian sub in New West also.
In fact, I volunteered a day to help paint the inside prior to it officially opening.
Too bad it didnt stay around...
