a couple remington 597 .17hmr/.22wmr questions

Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting a remington 597 but I can't decide between the .22 wmr or the .17hmr cartrige.

Also, would a replacement barrel be all one would need in order to switch between the two cartriges?

Furthermore, do they make any high capacity magazines for this rifle?

I say go with the .22 its cheaper and much more available ... well everywhere.

i haven't been any where really that doesn't have 17 hmr the local store that sells ammo has a few boxes up at my cottage and they have a small selection. in onario you can usualy find it from what i have seen how ever in the prerrie where there are prerrie dogs i have heard it isn't so available at certan times

also from what i have heard the 17 hmr is a vary bad choice for close range on small gamesee ###yglocks post about his savage BTVS and what it will do to a skunk it really depends what your gonna use it for

17HMR is fun to shoot and will give you more range than a 22LR, but is more expensive to shoot. 17HMR will cost you 12 - 16 bucks for 50 rounds....compared to 13 bucks for 500 22 LR.

hehe. If you're not eating the meat (who eats coons and skunks?) then who cares if you blow em right in half . They sure don't run anywhere, just a little messier to dispose of .

My vote is .17HMR, super smokin round.

If you don't want to blow the critters right in half, use the 20grain XTP bullets. Controlled expansion as opposed to un-controlled explosion .

22WMR makes a bigger splatter. Especially with the 33 VMAX loads
