A curiosity question for you lever experts.

I have a BLR in .308, and a few 99's, including one in .308. The BLR looks pretty much the same as it did the day I took it out of the box...cause it seldom gets out of the locker. It was infatuation at first sight, but instead of turning to love, my attachment to the BLR just kind of faded away. The 99's though...well, with them we're taking about meaningful relationships.

For me the BLR feels shorter and is faster - but that doesn't mean I plan to throw my 99s away.

I have a 99 in .250 that is nice and short, but I also have an 1899 in .303 Savage that seems to require me to have an arm extension to cycle. I haven't shot my .300 much, so I don't have a feel for it yet.

I always thought the 99 was longer, but, having looked at it, I guess the speed of the BLR made me think it was shorter.
The BLR is very fast.
Reliable? that's 'nother issue. They are not perfect. My wife's retains the right to not close without a really good squeeze on some ocassions (even with factory amo). I have no problem, but it's beyond her ability to get the action to close.

John Y, the "not closing" issue with BLRs is from mis-alignment of the circular cog affair. I had it happen to two different ones. The fix is quite simple if you know what you are doing, which I do not - but smoji can do that for you.
