I would say that is a Brux with interupted fluting. Very cool pattern for something different on a barrel.

She'd be a long slog doing stuff like that on a Manual Milling machine, but do-able.

But if you have a CNC mill with an indexer or rotary axis, well, the world becomes a bivalve mollusk indeed! All you need is an idea and the time to get around to it!

It seems like that would increase the surface area quite a bit to promote cooling... looks pretty neat too.
