A different kind of milsurp. MG08

just wanted to show you guys this MG08.
its a pretty cool piece. i cant really tell you much about it. the top cover looks like is was never stamped with a maker? you can see how deep the MG08 marking is but no trace of anything else. i am thinking i might repaint it but am not 100% sure yet. i need a few more pieces for it to make it at least look complete.

Yup, no paint, but you really need the sled mounting to complete it.

Can you disassemble it to look up state of internals?Interesting MG for sure.

the top cover opens but not much to see inside. the feed block is locked up and does not come out and its got just enough parts so the charging handle on the side will move. its just a 'wall hanger' really. but you could use it demonstrate also. i want to find enough parts to at least make it look complete. right now i really would like a main spring cover. the person i got it from figures it was on display some place maybe a legion.

no. that metal bit that is supposed to pick up and move the rounds around is free and it just slides back and forth for the handle to move. that big weld blob in the pic is so you cant add the like firing locking block thing.?

I suggest you keep a eye on eBay.De for MG08 stuff like water cans, belts, etc

The MG08 marking looks German to me, but it clearly saw service elsewhere. I suspect either Russian or Finland. Any other marking on it? The paint finish is likely also obscuring some original markings.

That green paint looks a lot like some of the Chinese crewed weapons (mortars and such).Must have been in dump/wet storage somewhere.

the person i got it from figures it was on display outside some place like a legion or museum.

i am pretty sure our guys brought this back after the first war. it has no other markings. i cant say then the paint was added to it.

JTF please have a look at my MG08 thread. It looks like someone has painted over it so maybe when you remove all the paint you will find a good condition body? As for renovation and parts please email me when you can.
