A different Railed handguard

gen 1 has the titanium skeleton IIRC and the Gen 2 is essentially the JAE "light" and the titanium has been dropped for weapons grade aluminum to reduce the weight.

Having handled these stocks and done a few installs , I can't justify the up to 1500.00 it might cost to get one...... unless you are LEO or military and require such a platform for you work.
Even the Troy Chassis.... at around 1000.00 landed is up there but a better buy for the civillian for the benefits it brings to the m14 platform.

By that I mean , Both the above two chassis lock the m14 barrelled action securely. The receiver, once assembled to the stock, is now part of it. Both "free float" the barrel however on the JAE the forward tensioner is an option and with the troy, it is part of the design.
The troy also accepts all contours of m14 barrel from standard to fat boy heavy barrels.

for the tacticool mall ninja in all of us...... the TROY is a better buy.... but if you are on a sniper team or employed as such .... that JAE would be the cats ass :D

Titanium lugs, aluminum chassis. It also came with the front lower rail, colour matched hand guard, cheek rest and spacers, spacers for length of pull and recoil pad, spacers and the palm rest. Seems like Gen 2 was just a money grab!

Yea it seems the chassis was always aluminum, and the lugs were titanium in G1, and 7075 aluminum in G2.

G2 owners can upgrade to the titanium lugs for an extra $179US.

The stock was very simple to install (assuming I did it right. I bought it off the EE and had no instructions) but it seems right. My existing brown factory hand guard looks horrible on top of the JAE chassis though, so that is why I am shopping around for hand guard options.

the troy stock does not touch the barrel and utililizes a forward bracket system that does not contact the gas assembly or the barrel except for the locking plate on the barrel band. I'll take some pics later.

note to those with a unitized (welded) gas assembly.... your barrel will not be "free floated" in a troy stock due to the welds fixing the band to the gas assmbley

I suppose the term "free floating" is kinda a hard thing to apply to the m14 in any config

to truly free float the m14 barrel... you would have to have no stock or handguard contact with the entire assembly, gas sytem or barrel, doing away with the stock band altogether.
A Jae type receiver locking mechanism would enable such a stock, with a foward handguard system that anchored to the rear sight pocket and the stock itself in numerous locations along it's length. Then the only contact with the barrel would be the oprod guide

Thats what I'm thinking.

I'd give my first born for that stock! :D

Well your first born would have to weigh about an additional 5 lbs to an already overdue 9lbs that the unstocked m14 action weighs, add a scope and you are looking at 14-15 lbs with the JAE, add a full 20 rnd mag and what do you know, 16-17 lbs, did I say pig, yes I thought so. :D Nothing like a sleek, fast pointing USGI stock, take off the metal butt plate and replace it with a rubber butt (much lighter) pad and you have a nice, sleek, medium weight tac driver. ;)

JAE gen 1 with full option package, on a stock norc with arms 18 mount and bushnell elite 3200 , and a full legal 5/20 rnd mag...... 13 lbs 2 ounces

troy mcs with a krieger medium contour barrel and busnell 3200 and a legal 5/20 rnd full mag, 99$ buttstock and a battle grip...... 11 lbs 13 ounces.....

as issued m14 wieghs in the neighborhood of 8 lbs 7 ounces depending on stock..... with a full 20 rnd mag i believe

but i agree ,,, a sleek well made f/g stock, even with full rails...... is lighter and quicker.

The M14 with an empty mag and a standard USGI stock weighs about 11.5 lbs. The troy MCS system weighs about 5lbs with sights and a butt stock, as does the JAE stock. By comparison a USGI stock with rubber butt pad weighs just under 3lbs, thus at least a 2 lb savings over the JAE and Troy MCS. 2lbs may not seem like much for the newbie but it is a hell of a lot of weight when you are hunting or humping a load all day. ;)

I have a digital scale and it does not lie hehehehe

but i agree.... no hunting deer and moose with the troy :D

Ok I just reweighed one of my M14 and it is about 10 lbs with a rubber butt padded USGI stock and empty 20 rnd mag, so about 11.5 lbs with a full 20 rnd mag. Add about another 1lb for a steel butt pad USGI stock. But ya you get my drift. I think too many people are buying into these heavy weight systems when they are not actually gaining much in the way of tactical advantage but rather losing speed, agility and endurance when carrying.

Especially when you decide to pack your M-14 on a week long hunting trip!!! I'm glad I have a 3 point sling for mine! ;)

I bought a JAE stock because paper targets at the range do not run very fast. If I hunted with the M14S it would be a different story, but for what I use the gun for the weight is a non-issue.
