You know, most of the SR competitors are younger than either my son or daughter.
Just started testing a new space gun upper. DPMS LoPro upper which I had on hand, fitted with a take-off Stevens 200 1:9 barrel, held in place with a DPMS tubular handguard and barrel nut. The clamp-on gas lock was too large in ID, so I machined an aluminum sleeve, drove it onto the barrel, then turned it to fit the gas block. Installed a Smith muzzle brake. Have the new Leupold 1 1/2-5 on this one. Didn't have a riser on hand, so I milled off the top of the bottom half of a set of cheap aluminum scope rings, drilled and tapped them, and screwed on a Weaver base for a 336 Marlin. Nice height and eye relief. Have only fired a couple of groups after zeroing, but it looks as if in will go sub 2 minutes. Less 'scope, but with a new bolt carrier group, the whole upper assembly cost less than $600. The scope cost more than the complete upper.
The barrel is the standard 22" light sporter. Haven't shortened it because it is a slim contour, and balance and handling are OK as is.
Incidentally, it is possible to fit one of these Savage/Stevens barrels to a barrel extension and not use a reamer.
