A group effort finally bears rabbity fruit!

She's dug out a few grouse and hares this fall, (her first season) but the shooter :)( ) let her down... Out for her walk yesterday, it all came together.

Bugs will be in my belly within the hour...

good to see....great going .....i guess she must of had a little talk with her shooter between last year and this year...LOL
looks like see is still ready to go for more....good hunting you two

Thanks WGP. Pleased to say she got another out today on her walk, about 20m from where that pic was taken, took a bit of digging, but eventually, out came the hare with the dog in hot pursuit. My shot wasn't a clean hit, basically broke one of the hind legs, so she chased it down twice and pinned it until I got a hold of it and finished it off. Good dog!!

My wife was out with me for todays walk, nice spot on the headlands near the house. This was her first time being present for game being taken and I gotta say, she was a champ as well. When we got home she washed the dog while I butchered the hare, and then she did the final cleanup on the meat and called her Mother for recipe advice. :)

Hare number two is now in the fridge marinating in vinegar, water, salt and onions, awaiting tomorrow nights Polish country-style rabbit supper.

I think I can officially consider the dog 'broken'. She's 15 months old and really coming into her own, a natural hunter.

Next step, some serious bird and retrieval training, wish I had more time to be at it...

Hey that's impressive (considering its not a beagle)! I'm assuming she don't bark like a beagle so you might want to tie a bell around her neck for added noise. That should get the rabbits moving a bit more and if they start moving, she'll be more likely to pick them up.
Nicely done!

Memories!!! They are great!!! I remember my English Pointer's first woodcock. After whooping it up with my dog, we left immediately and drove to the local McDonalds for a soft serve ice cream, FOR HER... I still think of that day, the point, the flush, the bird dropping and the sh1t eating grin my dog had on her face, especially how happy she was to be sitting on the tailgate of my truck eating ice cream!!!

Cheers
Jay
