I'm not sure what it is. He said wheels weights and roofing gaskets...probably a mix of what ever people drop of. I might be able to go through it and pick and choose. Problem is I don't really know what I'm looking for....
how about batteries lead???
too acid?? maybe?
thanks
One of the scrap places I buy lead from occasionally also jacked up the lead price to a buck recently.
Used to get it there for 0.60/lb
Where do you want to use it for? Pistol, rifle, shot ?
Be very careful buying wheel weights at that price. So much steel and zinc mixed in nowadays that it will be expensive after the loss/waste.
Roofing gaskets are probably very long and small strips of soft lead and has probably a lot of oxidation on it.
I would look for large chunks of lead if they are available. Much easier to clean, less fluxing required and way less smoke than wheel weights.
Gently drop them on the concrete floor to "hear" how soft or hard the lead is or scratch it.
With some practice you quickly know what to look for.
Good luck.
I think I'm gonna be loading subsonic 308win but I'm not 100% on that. I'm interested it trail boss and cast bullets in a 308win
Stay away!!!! To many nasty chemicals nowadays for not much lead
Thanks !!! then I will throw out all the battery that I have... sniffff snifffff

I would say its not a problem at all when handled properly. Same as with all other lead types.
Roof gasket around $0.65 ish depending on how much tar is on it. Wheel weights I would not pay more than $0.50/lb usually I pay $0.35. Scrap yards are paying around $0.25 for wheel weights and $0.50/lb for other lead

I found a guy that will sell me wheel weights for $0.20/# are wheel weights typically mixed at this price. Could I end up with more than half of it being garbage?

Usually they are mixed at any price. Last time I got some there was 3 almost full 5 gallon pails. Almost ¾ of a pail of crap after sorting.
