A dud!

A few weeks ago someone was shooting my .38 special revolver using my handloads and got the dreaded "click". I wasn't shocked, I had caught my powder measure acting up during this loading session and though I had tried to cull any suspect rounds, I always knew it was possible there could be an uncharged cartridge in the bucket.

Imagine my surprise then, when I finally got around to pulling the bullet and found a full charge of Unique behind it. I popped the Winchester WSP primer and lo:

Cup, foil, and anvil, all clean as a whistle, and not a speck of priming compound in sight. Duds happen, and it's usually the reloader's fault. But not always.

Just some info for those, like me, who are interested to know why things go wrong.

I found one just like that once. I had a dud in an IPSC nationals match, after the stage was over I pocketed it and when I got home and disassebled it, it was exactly the same: no priming compound.

Cost me the match!:p;)

Had a dud 5.56mm round turned in once. It turned out to not have a flash hole. Only one in the lot. Go figure.
