A few good milsurp finds.

The milsurp bug hit me just before Christmas with the $149.00 Marstar Chinese [ un-issued ] SKS. Then Tradex had M-38 rifles for $239.00 and also got a Steyr M95/34 for $139.00. Was down to The Gun Dealer in N.B. and scored a Swedish Mauser carbine for $199.00. Scored a Nagant 91/30 at Halifax Army-Navy surplus [ 1940 in great shape with matching # bayo for $160.00 ] Got a Ishvek SKS [ refirb ] from the Canadian Tyre for $199.00. Just ordered a M-44 from Collectors Source for $199.00.that is full of cosmo as I understand but the cleanup / takedown process is part of the fun for me. I prefer them to have some history / wear but a non-issue is always nice too. Swiss K31 is on the list next but I just got to find the best shape for the best price. Will this end or should I seek help?
 
Welcome to the 'world of milsurps'..Your making good progress. It will not end, you will NEVER sit back, look at what you have and say..."That's it, done".:)Prepare those around you and your wallet for the exciting times ahead:))
 
The only things that hold me back are the empty wallet and my wife finding the hidey spot behind the furnace.

I highly recommend you get a K31, should be able to locate a nice one for a hair under $300. I'm thinking of getting a nice blond looking one to complement my walnut stocked version.

While your shipping at Tradeex, check out Swedish Mausers as well for one of the greatest milsurp deals going right now. I almost bought one last week but the Steyr 95/34's popped up again, figured they might not last....

And lastly, the restricted PAL will open you up to a whole other world of milsurp wallet hurt. I've got a pair of TT 33's, there's some reasonable prices on a few other pieces of history out there right now too.

Oh, and once you pull the trigger on one of these old beasts there is no cure.....may as well give up all hope of recovery right now. ;)
 
I haven't held a K31 yet but if the quality is half of what my Gewehr 96/11 (Schmitt Rubin Long Rifle) is then it is seriously undervalued. I have already decided that my next future rifle purchases (provided a really good deal doesn't come up) will be the Swiss straight pulls as frankly they are just plain awesome.

Built like a tank, reliable as a, well, Swiss watch. Mine is becoming one of my favourites. I'm even considering an open sight hunt next year if there's any deer left around here by spring.

Must be something in the air or water -- my milsurp collection started late last year (2013) too: Ross Mark III (sporterized, but was originally military), Lee Enfield No 4 Mk 1, 1943 Mosin Nagant 91/30 (received in trade for some Cooeys, of all things), Swiss K31, Schmidt-Rubin 1889 made in 1893. The Schmidt-Rubin is interesting for its reloading challenge -- can't (or really shouldn't) use surplus GP11 or modern 7.5×55 Swiss ammo in it. Sort of have the urge for a new old rifle, but not sure where to go from here. Am not really all that interested in things like the SKS or SVT 40. I sort of want to believe that finding a Ross in original military configuration would cure me of all this, but I'm not so sure.

Doesn't help. I got a full-military Ross. Mark III, saw service in Bermuda, France, Chile, served 1913 to 1968. VERY historic.

That was 12 Rosses and almost 20 Lee-Enfields ago.

Now the bug has bitten again.

I have military stuff from the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries.... and even a 21st Century copy of a 1957 rifle.

It NEVER lets you go.

Welcome to the addiction and no there is no 1-800 number to help there is just CGN and we won't help with the addiction we just seem to keep it going....

I started collecting in early 2012 and I'm up to 15 rifles and 2 handguns with another handgun on the way.

And now I'm looking into reloading (finally!) which will make ammo cheaper which means more money to spend on stuff... yeah welcome to the club.

But the upside is you meet the nicest people!
 
As others have stated YOUR HOOKED, don't fight it.

I started collecting 2 years ago and they seem to multiply in the vault. Every time I open the door it seems like there's 2 more. The worst part is they're like potato chips you just can't have one.

Some try to "cure" milsurpitis by saying "I'm going to focus on one type of rifle", which usually ends up being a lie or they end up collecting mausers which as we all know there's like 6000 different Mauser variations!

Then there's my style, I call it "scatterbrained".

My first was a 1916 SMLE sporter, then I grabbed a $160 sks, then a Turkish Mauser, a Ross, a no4, Finnish mosin, a snider, many swedes, some milsurp based target rifles and a 71/84 Mauser.

I'm sure I forgot a few in there but you get the idea!!

I'll finish with stay away from Smellie as he is the soul reason for my obsession!! The man will show me a rifle and then tell me the most romantic story about the rifles history and then BOOM 2 weeks later after many a sleepless night I'll buy one!!
