Shot at 50 yrds with Eley Target, (I think I might go buy a case with this lot number)
 
I remember shooting the Feinwerkbau air rifle in my dads basement as a kid, but I really don't recall if he did or not. I know he probably dose not remember it though. But yeah I was impressed too, we shot the 50yrd unlimited match on here and he beat me...227-3x to 223-6x..

He kept saying its all the gun..

I agreed lol... then told him he was doing amazingly well.
 
That's one very nice rifle. They do shoot; it's no accident that Anschütz pretty well have the Olympic competition to themselves.

Here are a few targets I shot with my old (1966) CIL 310/Anschütz, using plain old Americal Eagle budget ammo and an inexpensive Simmons 3-9 scope (I really must pick up some Eley Target sometime!)

Great shooting!! Those really are some great groups.

Have you tried experimenting with other ammunition: Eley Match EPS, Lapua Superclub, Lapua Master/Midas, RWS R50, etc?

A good solid windage adjustable rest would really help for score shooting when you are taking 1 shot at a target - and for groups it would likely help for consistency (the forend stop makes sure the gun is put back in the exact same position for each shot).

I have some Lapua Superclub, and Eley Club to try out as well..

The Eley Target did pretty well though, but I do have another lot number to try.

I am going to do some research on rests, what kind do you recommend ? I have used the old Hoppes orange rests with nice leather bags before but that pretty much covers my use of rests aside from the ones provided at the indoor range. They are once piece Benchmaster rests? (I think) but I much prefer the 2 bag setup for that kind of shooting.

I might have to set up a benchrest gun those USBR targets are a blast to shoot, its sucks when you do good though, then the heart starts pumping and that dot never wants to stay in the middle when that starts to happen lol.

CIL 310 was one of the first gun I ever shot, my uncle still has it, I still need one :)
But who is going to sell a light nimble super slick tack driving 22 ? They tend to get passed along I am thinking.

That is an amazing group for 100m, with the cheapest ammo out there!

I use a cowan rest. These are made by Joe Cowan and students at his shop twice a year. They are relatively cheap for a windage adjustable rest ($240 or anound there I think) and provide a real nice set up. There is lots of windage adjustments on it and it is a big step up from my other windage rest; The Caldwell rock BR.

Here is the set up :)

My personal best with that set up is 246 - 6X on the USBR. Most of my targets though are lower 240's. I really couldn't do too much better than mid 230's though until I got a benchrest stock and a windage adjustable rest. It really takes a lot of the guesswork out of it and allows you to pay more attension to making a good shot and watching the wind. After I have taken a shot, I load, and then push the gun forward until it hits the stop. At this point I am back to the exact same place I just shot - from there I can use windage or elevation to adjust to next target.

That's a very nice rest. Where is Joe Cowan's shop?

It's not in the same ballpark, but I just got a Caldwell Tack Driver rest

Haven't had a chance to try it out yet (and won't unti my new RPAL arrives... hopefully before I die :mad:) but it looks like it should be pretty stable for general range shooting.

That was taken in December :) ;)

My rest was ordered from the states from Mr. Cowan. To tell you the truth I forget what state it was but if anybody is interested I have contact info for him.

Whew. You had me worried for a minute there.

I did a little "googling" and came up with this info for Joe Cowan, compiled from a couple of sites.

From a THR archived article:

...I use a rest made by Joe Cowan's students at the GREATER ALTOONA [PA] CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER. They do a run every semester and plow the money back into their program, although as I recall one time they donated some money to the family of a student after their home burned down. Joe is a tool & die maker and a teacher. And a shooter.

The last time I looked the rest cost $240 and that includes the windage top, speed screw and shipping.

They've been very popular at RimfireCentral for a number of years and have been sold around the world. I bought one of the original models and then bought one of the redesigned ones like the one in the picture that he's selling now that are a little heavier with brass legs and a thrust bearing on the post. They can also be reversed for lefthanders....

....The windage-adjustable front rest is made in the machine shop at the Altoona Area High School Career and Technology Center.[but see next paragraph] Many shooters call this the 'Cowan Rest'. My spotter and shooting buddy Joe Cowan is the instructor for the Altoona HS program. These excellent tripod rests have been sold world-wide, with all proceeds going back to the students. This program and what the students have done with some of the money is worth a story by itself. The Cowen Rest ia a very nice design--stable and easy to adjust, and you know your money will be going into a worthy endeavor....

where did you get your bags ? (protecktor ?)
buy direct or found a good price somewhere else ?

and is it worth the few extra dollars for the mariners wheel?

I got my bags (Yes, Protector) at Sinclairs. I remember having a hard time deciding which bags I should get. Couldn't decide between cordura, or leather, or if I should get bunny ear, or rabbit ear, or (I think there was another one as well), or if I should get two stitch, one stitch, or if I should get one with a base, or not a base, the high one or the low one, etc.

Took a while to figure out but in the end I am happy with what I got (Leather for both - bunny ear rear bag - two stitch, low bag but with base). Well worth the money - don't waste your money on cheap bags :)
