Heres a pic of my 15 year old son with three nice grouse we shot tonight, he shot two with his new TRADEX Savage 22mag over 20 gauge...........boy was he excited, missed three , got three, lots around, it was our first time out this year

Right on, the season opens up here in Manitoba today, and I'm on my way out. BTW, nice Arctic cats in the background!!!!:D
 
I love sprucies. Any grouse we get we like to soak in a bowl of cold salt water for an hour or two before cooking, I like them best bbq'd. My wife once soaked some sprucies in milk overnight and then roasted them they were good.

Rip their crops out soon after killing (or do the wing stand leg pull thing). I often like my birds whole though, so I will pull out the crops and gut them as soon as they stop twitching. This removes the digestive tract and the needles that sometimes give a sprucy flavor to the meat. This time of year though all the sprucies I shoot are feeding on small cranberries so I don't usually bother.
