Alright so Iam new to the whole restricted AR world, The only AR I have is a 180b.

So I'v had somewhat of a AR build in mind for awhile now and just have a few simple questions. The rifle will start on a Norinco CQB platform, And I'v researched most of the things that I am going to do with it. So the 2 questions are:

1. Is its Hard to swap a Barrel on an AR? say to an 11.5" barrel. Or is it fairly simple to do given you have the proper wrench and are fairly confident taking things apart?

2. Do Nork CQB's have somewhat of a glossy finish compared to say an Armalite AR?

Thats is all.

1) If you have the wrench and a vice/vice block it will be easy. If you just have the wrench, its harder, but do-able.

2) Sorry... No idea.

First, if you intend on building a custom rifle do not go for a Chinese as a base. Save a bit more and you could build it with American parts. For example here is a build I did for a friend:

Upper:

Armalite Gas Tube (EC0060) & Pin (EU1060) – Wolverine $18.05
Daniel Defense Flat Top Upper (DD-9003) – Wolverine $160
Daniel Defense FA Bolt Group (DD-9300) – Wolverine $185
Armalite Charging Handle (EU0010B) – Wolverine $36.40
Magpul MBUS Rear – Brownell’s $48.29
A2 Flash Hider – Wolverine $29.95
Rock River Arms 10.5” Barrel (RRA-AR0225ASY) – Questar $299.99
Magpul Mil Spec MOE Kit – Brownell’s $95.97
Armalite Delta Ring Kit (EMK027) – Wolverine $23.10

Lower:

Aero Precision – Kodiak Outpost $149
Mil-spec Buffer Tube (EL0370) – Wolverine $42.00
End Plate (EC0054) – Wolverine $6.44
Castle Nut (EC0053A) – Wolverine $6.44
Daniel Defense Lower Parts Kit (DD-23007) – Wolverine $105
Armalite Buffer (EC0030R) – Wolverine $16.80
Armalite Buffer Spring (EC0040) – Wolverine $3.50

Total Before Tax and Shipping:

$1195.98

Keep in mind, this example carbine is made from quality parts: Magpul furniture, BUIS, Milspec receiver, FA bolt group and 1/7 5.56mm NATO barrel.

For tools, I would recommend the following:

- Vice
- DPMS Action Block (Brownells)
- SEI USMC AR Wrench (ATRS)
- Spike's Tactical Stock Wrench
- Quality Brass and Steel Punch Set
- Hammer

That was my plan in the beginning, But after reading countless posts I got the general consensus people were having great luck with their CQB's. Perhaps I was only catching the good posts?

Also take in mind this will be my first AR15, My plan was to replace all the furniture with Magpul, put a better parts kit in, and replace the barrel and maybe the trigger group.

After looking at some different barrel prices is the S&J 11.5" no good?

Get the CQB. Throw a low powered scope on it. Shoot the shzt out of it.
Then decide what you really want or need. You will be in a better position to decide whether the various accessories are useful or just tactikewllery.

I've been satisfied with my S&J Hardware barrels - I have used 3 different barrels on 3 different builds, and I have had no issues. Can't beat the price either. SFRC usually has them in stock...they too are great to deal with.

instead of building from ground up, wait for the upper with configuration you want to come up for sale in the EE, than slap on a lower.

This way ou get the AR you want at a good price without bunch extra parts on your hands.

the exact upper I want is for sale but its almost 1100$ Which for me at the moment is a little more than I want to spend for just one half of the rifle. But I'll still keep my eyes open. Iam fixed on a Carbine Shorty
