A few questions about my SKS

Hi everyone, please excuse my English — it’s not my first language.

I bought a Chinese SKS with an ATI stock installed, and I’m having an issue with the magazine release. The mag catch is extremely tight. When I use an Archangel lever-style magazine, I can’t release the magazine using the lever. I have to press the mag catch really hard by hand to get the magazine out.

I took the trigger group apart because I initially thought the mag catch spring might be the problem. I replaced the spring with a new one, but the issue is still the same.

What I noticed is that once I drive the trigger group pin back in tightly, the mag catch becomes very stiff again. Has anyone dealt with this before? Does anyone know what might be causing it or how to fix it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi and Welcome !
I don't have an ATI stock but I have had 3 SKSs. I've not had a problem with 'Hard to release' mags with the Tapco Stock & mags I've owned in 2x rifles. When you remove the trigger group are you 'turning ON the Safety? That might be part of the problem? I would suggest you look on YouTube for " ATI-SKS mag problems ". This is probably an ATI problem that others have experienced. I did have a problem of mags "Falling out" with a "Mag release/Sear Spring" that was TOO WEAK, but that was a spring from MCarbo. The light spring DOES make the Trigger Pull Much Lighter/better.
Good luck with this.
PS - You should make a post in the "Greeting and Introduction forum also.

Post this in the Red Rifles forum, you might get better results there. Also, post in the Greetings and Introductions forum to introduce yourself

Some mags you have to do some filing/sanding in certain places to get them to fit properly
I had to sand down the mag catch nub on an archangel mag to get it to fit my sks

^ ^ As long as it will feed properly . . . OP, you can always take some off BUT it's hard to 'add'. A little bit at a time.
