A few questions about Tavor rifle

Hi there,

Hopefully I'm not being to nosy

I'm waiting (probably like a few of you) for a Tar-21 from Canada Ammo
They say that there are working for a spring/summer delivery date.

I enjoyed the post with the picture breakdown of the tar-21 but that's from 2008. Is that really the last time we got a batch?

How many of you have a Tavor rifle (Tar-21) and any regrets?

If you have one when did you get it and do we have a member that has a first batch buy , like in 2006 or whenever the we first brought to the market?

How many took the reg rifle and how many took it with the picatinny rail?
was that an option in earlier series?

How many people ditched the M21 sight and put something better off the bat?

If you were to do it again , would you of just jump at a xcr at 2300$

I have a first batch rifle. Back when everyone was waiting I had more than one offer to buy mine for $5000. I declined, that is how much I love this rifle.

I ditched the MEPRO as soon as I could. Decent optic, but has some short comings. Biggest for me is you can't adjust the brightness. I had issues with shooting from a dark area to a light area. Like from inside or under shade to a target outside in the sun. The dot would be too dim to see.
 
Mine's from the latest batch, with the factory rail. Love it, still have the Mepro (the newest detachable one with the bullseye reticle) and really like it, but have noticed the same problem that Armedsask mentions below. I'm not crazy about the factory BUIS built into the rail, but aside from that, there's nothing about it I'd change.

Would I buy it again? Absolutely.

Sold my xcr after getting my tavor. Moreso to free up some funds for other projects, but my tavor is my go to 5.56 rifle. I would never sell it. I love bullpups.

I really really want a non restricted type 97 though. Not gonna happen, but bullpups are the ####.
 
The Tavor is the best thing since sliced bread! My only regret is not having enough money to buy 2! Even if XCRs were free I would still want a Tavor.

The Mepro sight is fine if you are interested in rapid/close up shooting; if you are interested in using the rifle for longer/more precision work then swap it out. I recommend getting the railed version so that the sight has a quick detach mount - this makes it easier to sell the Mepro if you don't like it or easier to swap back and forth between another optic if you want.

Just confirms what I already thought. Now I just have to wait till Canada Ammo get's it's batch. I'm still curious on when you guys got your rifles. And when was the last batch.
I spoke to Paul and he figures/hopes for a spring/summer release. Did all your rifles come from Canada Ammo or are there any other distributors out there?

Canada Ammo is the only supplier of Tavor rifles in Canada. Be prepared for a long wait despite an ETA of summer, things did not go 100% smoothly with the last shipment. I was on the wait list for almost 2 years. The last (second) batch was in March, and the first batch was somewhere around 2 years before that.

If you are 'win the lottery' lucky you might find a second hand Tavor for sale in the EE.
 
I think CanAm are secretly marketing genius's.

Think back to highschool...there was always that one hottie who everyone wanted but never got, whereas everyone rode the town tricycle and didn't want to take her home to mom. 20 years later I'd be happy with either... But the tavor really looks like the homecoming queen but is a well designed attention whore. AR's come and go, but dispite the grainy/stiff trigger pull my tavor still makes my heart jump when I take her out of her 30" long case... The mepro light works ok, but even the cross hare dot will translate into a hardball sized dot at 50 meters...dlask has a new longer rail, but Ive only got Jo's 1st design rail which is far superior in quality and craftsmanship than any U.S. made AR accessory rail Ive ever seen.

Like Lloyd I waited near two years. It was worthwhile. Got mine in March/April.
I have the newer Mepro, yes it fades out when shooting into bright light but the dot is much smaller at 1 moa now.


If Canam says July, have cash on hand but don't let yourself be put off if it really turns into September. That would still be pretty fast considderring international beauracracies and apparatchiks who want to slow things down and interfere in all commerce.

I really like my Tavor. Very well thought out rifle! IMHO of course! The only thing I would change is to have a "button" operated "assist" light to the Mepro21, that would solve the dim reticle situation that others describe.

I have never felt so good about spending a lot of money on something I didn't need as when I bought my Tavor. I love it so much I sometimes consider selling every other gun I own to buy a second one. It's arguably the best overall modern military rifle in existence and you can have it as a non-restricted firearm in Canada. AR-15s are all fine and good, but the whole restricted situation just makes it not worth it for me.

I was bragging to my friend about how awesome my Tavor was and when he asked me how much it cost. I told him and he said "holy crap, how can you spend 3k on a gun" and I said "how can you spend 9k on your motorcycle. I could have three Tavors for that much!" I later let him hold it and now he understands.

Some people like to blow money on fishing boats, some buy motorcycles and some buy fancy cars. Compared to all that a Tavor is a bargain! You can't afford NOT to buy one!
