a few reloading questions

so got my first press (hornady lnl ap) and going through setting it up and picking my components and have some questions

1)where do i find hornady one shot gun cleaner/dry lube? ive called all the shops in the vancouver/lower mainland area except wanstalls (couldnt get an answer when i called, will try again tomorrow) i will just go buy some separate degreaser and powdered graphite from somewhere but having it all in one can is handy

2)whats a powder for 9mm that's a good balance between cheap and clean that will meter well? i'm going to be loading 147gr if it makes a difference

If you use a Carbide sizing die there is no need for a lubricant. Unless you are going to load just a few rounds, carbide is the only way to go.

If you have to lube, smear a one inch worm of Lee lube (comes in a toothpaste tube) in a plsti ccontainer with a lid, like a 2 liter ice cream pail. Then swirl and shake the brass for 30 seconds. It will all be lubed.

As for a good general purpose powder, IMR7265 meters well, is fairly clean and is a mid range powder about the same speed as Unique. Well suited to 147s.

MidwayUSA is the best source (availability and price) for Hornady One Shot that I have found. Here it is on sale - link. I'm not sure about Midway shipping to Canada. It is good stuff, but for the cleaning of the press components and dies you could use brake cleaner. With either cleaner, be careful not to get it on the silicon gaskets, they'll melt

as for powder - I like Unique - but my main reason for that preference is because it works well for all my calibers

think OP was asking for OneShot because it is specified in the assembly instructions for the LNL, to remove assembly grease - they get the customer to do what they should do before shipping :(

but I do use OneShot case lube - link - for resizing magnum casings even with Carbide dies - a little squirt on the whole pile seems to make resizing so much easier.
 
hornady like to use "one shot" for about 5 different products so that is why i specified the gun cleaner/lube version, i am looking to use it to clean the press pieces but looks like ill have to do it all in 2 steps

thanks for the powder suggestions, it looks like i will be buying a few lbs of different types before i settle on the one that works best
 
I have found that using VV N320 with 9 mm 147 grain bullets is an excellent combination. It burns clean and reduces the recoil while still giving the velocity for minor PF.

I load 3.1 grain of VV N320 with 147 gr lead round nose to OAL of 1.135" in my Tanfoglio match... (gives 130 PF)

I use N320 under a 185 grainer in 45ACP. I use N350 under a 124 grainer for 38 Super.

Vihtavuori powders are the cats ass for pistol IMHO. They meter consistently and fire super cleanly. Vihtavuori's cost difference per round is such a minuscule number for pistol, its laughable that anyone would reject it on that basis.
 
ive never seen VV powders for sale, who carries them? im looking to make 130pf as well so thanks for the load

also any opinions on tite group? ive been reading that its pretty popular
