I picked up a very sorry Cooey 60 a while back. The stock was shattered, no bolt and rust was it's hue. I didn't have any spare stocks so I cut out some of the trash, laminated some hardwood strips and glued it back together. It looked pretty crappy but it was solid.
I then sanded and stained it. Next step was to very lightly spray some fine mist of green and yellow. Just enough to get a hint of colour. I applied some leaf shaped patternes and sprayed the whole thing white. Removed the patterns, light sanding then several coats of clear coat. The leaf patterns have the fall colours and the wood grain still shows through.
I buffed the metal and did a cold blue with Brownells liquid and 000 steel wool.
All in all, I like the result.
Took it to the range and it did 1/2" @ 25 meters. (My buudy did that. My eyes aren't that good.)

Cool those leaf patterns are really neat. Finish work isn't my thing so I always appreciate those who have that skill.

Nice work. I can't bring myself to alter any gun really....but I should get over that. I do love to see people personalizing a firearm, and breathing new life into it. Well done!

You did a really nice job of dragging that little rifle out of the dump and putting it up on its feet!

I have the same gun needing that kind of work too and a 10g

The best way to do it, is to just dive in. This one was so far gone I couldn't do more harm. The feed tube had been bent and couldn't take a round so I managed to straighten it. One of the two feed guides under the receiver was broken and I had to weld it back on. The receiver was pinched and wouldn't accept the bolt. Made for a fun restore.

I'm in total agreement with refurbishing and restoring an old rifle, especially if it has no collector value. You start out with something butt ugly, often ALREADY butchered or neglected and with some work and ingenuity turn it into something nice to look at and nice to shoot...I've done the same thing with an old Cooey, slimed it down, sanded and refinished the stock, cut the barrel, filed in grooves for a scope mount, put on a bushnell rimfire 4x and once it's touched up with some cold blue it's going to a grandson...a fine shooter .If the 'purists' want to show their ignorance by turning their nose up at it, so be it...
