A good sling for my 700 5r?

For standing, where you can't really lock you elbow against anything the best sling is probably a two point. You use a hasty sling method where you wrap the sling around your front forearm, drawing it tight against your chest as it is connected to the butt stock.

For kneeling or sitting, you can use the same method but a loop style sling is better. Here the sling is only connected to the forend and forms a loop that you slide up your arm and cinch in place above your elbow.

The old standard M1907 US leather military sling does this and can be used looped or hasty. I use it on my hunting rifles too, as well as target.

Basically, any sling material can work as long as it is not elastic. I prefer leather but synthetic is fine too I believe. You want 1 inch wide or better to spread the pressure out on your arm.

Google Les Tam Slings. Each sling is individually made for each client and his specific rifle based on your height, build, and swivel spacing. He's a very knowledgeable fellow and a real pleasure to deal with. Top quality sling and personal service at a reasonable price. Nothing else even comes close.

A shooting sling provides a real benefit when shooting from a supported position, but off hand I don't find it as beneficial as the other techniques I use to get the sight to freeze momentarily on the target.

The M1907 should be fairly available at a lot of places. I got mine at Elwood Epps. Try email on phone tomrrow or Tuesday. You might be able to find it on line at Wholesale Sports.

I've never seen the quick cuff before. Looks like a good sling incorporating the strengths of the M1907 with updates (one would like to think that slings could improve over the course of 104 years eh?)
